Purchased 365 Family in Dec 2025. Not showing as renewed?

Hi - I have spent hours desperately trying to find a human to speak to.

Every link I find leads me in circles around the self-help topics, no chat option is ever available and i finally managed to track down a phone number but it was just an AI that not only directed me to the self-help topics but would not put me through to a human.

My issue is this:

My Microsoft Family 365 automatically renewed on the 23/12/2025. At the time I didn't want it to as I have no use for it. I was travelling at the time and could not find any way to contact Microsoft either. Months have gone by and I've had to begrudgingly accept I have it. Fine.

Well today I try to open Word to write a document, but it says I have no subscription. The email is the same that I got the confirmation email to in December but the only way I can open Word is to renew, meaning purchase it again.

I have the reference number of the purchase but nowhere to put it to prove I already have the subscription.

I am so frustrated at the lack of human support. I'd like a refund please for the product I have never used and the fact I'm unable to use it even if I wanted to is just another kick in the teeth!

Please advise how I can get in contact with you - no self-help topics match this issue and the AI on the phone just directs me back to them.

Thank you

@Q&A Assist: as mentioned -- for option 3, I'm on this page as instructed:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/office/microsoft-365-customer-service-and-support-96162163-b3aa-498b-bbbb-5e757b0f31da

'Call back' and 'chat' are not links. This means there's no way to request a call back or chat to an agent - it just says this is what's accessible, which isn't true because there's no way to actually do that.

'choose the option to chat or receive a call back from a technical support expert.' I physically can't. The page doesn't give me the option to.

Option 4: 'If an automated system answers, request support for “Microsoft 365 subscription billing” and wait for the option to speak to an agent or request a call back.'

The AI gives me the link for the self-help pages again. Then says 'thanks for calling Microsoft. Goodbye.' before ending the call. I have no option to speak to an agent.

The renewal charge and the “no subscription” message need to be handled directly by Microsoft’s billing/support team, because subscription status and refunds require access to account and payment data.

Use these steps to reach a human agent and get both the subscription issue and refund request reviewed:

    1. Verify the subscription status
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account that received the December renewal email.
      • Check the Microsoft 365 subscription’s expiration/renewal date as described in “find out when your subscription expires.” If the date does not match the renewal you were charged for, this is important to mention to support.
    2. If the subscription was bought with a product key or card
      • If the renewal was via a physical box or card (or an emailed key), the subscription does not actually start until the product key is redeemed or the link in the email receipt is followed. If that step was never completed, Word will show “no subscription” even though a payment was taken.
      • Follow the guidance in “Renew Microsoft 365 for home” to redeem the key or complete the renewal, or provide this detail to support when requesting a refund.
    3. Contact Microsoft support for billing/refund and account fix
      • Go to the Microsoft 365 support contact page for home products and choose the option to chat or receive a call back from a technical support expert. For Microsoft 365 Family, support includes both chat and call-back.
      • When prompted for a category, choose something like “Manage my subscription” or “Billing” so the case is routed correctly.
      • Provide:
        • The Microsoft account email used for the subscription.
        • The renewal date and amount.
        • The reference number from the December purchase.
        • A description that Word now says there is no subscription even though a renewal charge was taken.
      • Ask the agent to:
        • Confirm whether the renewal is actually associated with the signed-in account.
        • Correct the subscription association so Microsoft 365 Family is active on the correct account, or
        • If appropriate, review eligibility for a refund of the unwanted renewal charge.
    4. If still unable to reach support via web
      • Use the general Microsoft customer service contact page that lists customer service phone numbers. From there, choose the region and follow the prompts to reach billing/support. If an automated system answers, request support for “Microsoft 365 subscription billing” and wait for the option to speak to an agent or request a call back.
    5. Temporary workaround
      • Until the subscription is fixed, Office Online can be used for free in a web browser at Office.com to create and edit Word documents.
