My Surface Laptop is telling me the processor is incompatible with Windows 11, but it is on the list of compatible processors - why can't I upgrade?

This is the message that I see:

The processor isn't currently supported for Windows 11. Processor: Intel Core i7-7660U CPU @2.50GHz

However, it is listed here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors

Otherwise, I'm on Windows 10 Pro, Version 21H1.
Installed RAM 16 GB

I bought the computer in 2018, so it isn't that old.

I have the exact same problem with my Surface Pro 5 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7660U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz 16GB RAM

It is a shame if this is the way how MSFT force you to buy a new Surface.

The link you shared is correct but if you check it your CPU is not listed there and it means it is not supported.
I advise you to open start and search for feedback and open Feedback Hub app and file a suggestion and request your CPU to be supported.

@Reza-Ameri - where do you see that the CPU isn't supported? What are you looking for specifically as it relates to the CPU?

The link which you shared earlier which is:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors
Is the correct list and if you look for Core i7-7660U you will see it is not listed there.

Hi @Joel-7770 ,

the CPU isn't listed on the webpage you provided in your question.

The Intel Core i7-7660U is not on the list here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/supported/windows-11-supported-intel-processors
At least if you search for 7660 the result is 0 on the list.

@AndreasBaumgarten - nevermind. I see what I did wrong. I went to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/windows-processor-requirements and looked up my current windows edition (I incorrectly assumed that I would need to look up my current system to see if it worked for the new) rather than Windows 11. I can see now that my processor is not listed there. That's a bummer.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Joel-7770

Some 7th generation and all 8th generation processors are supported for Windows 11. It seems your i7-7660U is not supported for Windows 11.
