Purchased a Personal subscription and got a family one instead!

Firstly can I just say for a paid product support is appalling. I just want to speak to a human!

Right so, I have redeemed a voucher code for a M365 Personal subscription yet for some reason it's redeemed a M365 Family plan which is shorter length Feb instead of May so less than a year I paid for, I have absolutely no need for Family version.

The funny thing is it keeps asking for my card details ("so i don't miss out") and this is the very reason I won't because frankly you can't be trusted. After my subscription ends I think I will be moving to an alternative because this is getting silly (I use it for study and that will finish soon so will have little need). I should not have to be wasting my time. This should be aa simple fix.

How can I get my full 1 year plan for Personal just like I purchased!

    Hello,

This is a public forum, so for your privacy and security, we can’t help with billing issues here. Also, no one in this forum has access to your account or payment information.

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

Any idea how this can be resolved or at least get a human response? Is basic "support" no longer included with MS products?

This scenario (wrong subscription type/term after redeeming a code) cannot be fixed by self-service; it requires Microsoft billing support to review the voucher and adjust or refund.

    Actionable steps:

    1. Verify what is currently active
      • Go to the Services & subscriptions page at https://account.microsoft.com (sign in with the same Microsoft account used to redeem the voucher).
      • Confirm:
        • Which subscription is listed (Microsoft 365 Family vs Personal).
        • The start and end dates of the current term.
    2. Confirm the voucher details
      • Locate the original voucher/receipt that states it is a 1‑year Microsoft 365 Personal subscription.
      • Keep the code, purchase proof, and any email confirmation ready; support will likely ask for these details.
    3. Contact Microsoft Billing Support
      • Because community and documentation channels cannot access accounts or change subscriptions, this must go through official support.
      • Use the Contact support flow:
        1. Go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/.
        2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that holds the subscription.
        3. Choose the Microsoft 365/Office product category.
        4. For the issue type, select options related to “Manage my subscription” or “Billing and Payment updates.”
        5. Choose “Chat with a support agent” or “Call me back” when offered.
      • Clearly state that:
        • A 1‑year Microsoft 365 Personal voucher was purchased and redeemed.
        • It was applied as a Microsoft 365 Family subscription with a shorter term (ending in February instead of May).
        • The request is to correct the subscription to the full 1‑year Personal term or otherwise provide an equivalent resolution.
    4. If a refund or cancellation is needed
      • If support proposes cancelling the incorrect Family subscription and re‑applying the correct one, they may direct to the standard cancellation/refund process. The general guidance for cancelling a Microsoft 365 subscription is documented here: cancel-a-microsoft-365-subscription-46e2634c-c64b-4c65-94b9-2cc9c960e91b.
      • Eligibility for refunds is determined by Microsoft billing support; they must check the account and transaction details.
    5. Ignore optional card prompts if not desired
      • The prompts asking for card details are for setting up recurring billing (“so you don’t miss out”). They are optional. If recurring billing is not wanted, do not add a payment method; the subscription will simply expire at the end of the paid term.

Because this involves correcting a misapplied voucher and subscription type/length, only Microsoft’s billing/support agents can fix it after verifying the account and purchase.
