Webinar ended during a lunch break

Hi,

We recently ran a webinar and unexpectedly had the Webinar end during the lunch break. I am able to rule out at least one device which was an organiser for the webinar that did not end it. Is there a log of who ended the webinar event and not just the "end time"/ "last leave" times.

As the organiser I can view the attendance report and I am not aware of any other logs of the event to indicate this?

Any help in identifying this would be much appreciated as if it was an error by a co-organiser, we can keep that in mind going forward.

Thanks

Kevin

Thank you so much for sharing this, @Kevin Cunningham. I really appreciate you taking the time to submit the feedback and include the link.

I’ve upvoted your idea as I think it’s a great suggestion, especially the ability to restart the meeting, which could help address the issue effectively.

I’ve also converted your comment into an answer on the thread so that other users can find it more easily and add their support by upvoting the request as well.

Thanks again for contributing your feedback, and hopefully we’ll see this feature supported in the future!

Thanks, I have submitted it here in case anyone reads this thread and would like to see this and my other suggestion of having an ability to restart the webinar which would resolve the issue also: https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/feedback/idea/0418334d-9953-f111-89e7-7c1e52b8a25f

Thanks for your responses.

    Hi @Kevin Cunningham

I completely understand why you’d want to get to the bottom of this, especially with the webinar ending unexpectedly during a break.

At the moment, there isn’t always a clear or explicit “ended by” action recorded, even in audit data, so identifying the exact person who clicked End event isn’t something that can be confirmed directly. In most cases, it comes down to reviewing the activity around the time the webinar ended and making a best‑effort inference.

One practical way to narrow it down is to combine this information from the attendance report:

    • The official event end time
    • The last activity / leave times of users who had permission to end the event (organizer, co-organizers, presenters)

    User's image

If you notice multiple attendees still present, and the event ends abruptly at a specific timestamp, then it’s a strong indicator that someone with one of those roles ended the session. From there, you can look at which of those users had activity closest to that exact time and identify the most likely source.

Since this scenario can be difficult to investigate, requests like surfacing a clear “ended by” field or improving audit visibility are valuable, and Microsoft does review and prioritize based on this type of input. As a forum moderators, I don’t have the ability to implement product changes directly. However, feedback like yours is incredibly important, as it helps the Microsoft product teams understand real-world needs and prioritize future improvements.

If you would like to see this feature added in the future, I encourage you to:

Submit feedback or upvote related requests in the Microsoft Teams Feedback portal.

    User's image

    • Describe your suggestion clearly and concisely.
    • Submit and optionally upvote similar ideas from other users.

Submit feedback via Teams desktop app:

    • Click the three dots next to your profile > Feedback > Choose Suggest a feature.

    User's image

    • You can fill in the form with your ideas and description to submit feedback.

Microsoft’s product team actively reviews customer submissions, and many improvements have been introduced based on user demand and real‑world usage scenarios. Submitting and upvoting feedback is the most effective way to help prioritize this feature for future updates.

In the meantime, you can check Microsoft 365 Roadmap for updating features in the future. I will continue to monitor this case and keep an eye on any updates. If there are any changes or new information regarding this feature, I will make sure to share them with you promptly.

Thank you for raising this, it’s a very common but understandably frustrating scenario, and your approach to investigating it is exactly right.
