Building and customizing solutions using Microsoft 365 Copilot APIs and tools
On a Mac, Copilot can be turned off per app using the Copilot preference, or more broadly via privacy settings. For the in-document Copilot icon that keeps reappearing, updating to a newer build is also important because recent updates removed an intrusive logo in Word.
Use the Copilot preference in each app (Word, Excel, PowerPoint):
- Open the app (for example, Word).
- From the app menu (e.g., Word menu), select Preferences.
- Under Authoring and Proofing Tools, select Copilot.
- Clear the Enable Copilot checkbox.
- Close and restart the app.
If the Copilot icon still appears or there is no Copilot option in Preferences, change privacy settings to disable Copilot features:
- In one of the apps (for example, Word), go to Preferences.
- Select Personal Settings > Privacy.
- In the Privacy dialog, go to Connected Experiences > Manage Connected Experiences.
- Clear Turn on experiences that analyze your content.
- Select OK, then close and restart the app. This applies to the other Office apps the next time they are opened.
If the stylus/icon is still visible even with Copilot disabled, install the latest Microsoft 365 for Mac updates. An update (for example, version 16.103.1 in Word) has removed an intrusive Copilot logo from the document window for affected builds, and similar updates are being released through the standard update channels.
