I have a similar problem when doing an in-place upgrade/repair of Windows 10 22H2 to Windows 10 22H2. I've tried everything with no luck. SFC, DISM, uninstalled various programs (malwarebytes firewall, simplewall and others), did registry cleaning, etc.

At around 48% the install process stops and computer shuts down, after powering on, it reverts back to previous version, and this screen is seen after booting up:Screenshot (14)

    Hi LINDOKUHLE BRITEN NDIMANDE,

I can understand how frustrating this is, especially after you’ve already tried multiple troubleshooting steps like SFC, DISM, and removing software without success.

In the meantime, please try the steps below:

    • Temporarily remove or disconnect any non-essential hardware (such as additional network cards, PCIe devices, USB peripherals, or external drives)
    • Keep only the essentials connected (keyboard/mouse and monitor)
    • If you’re using an add-on network card, try removing it during the upgrade

It also helped in some cases to update system components beforehand:

    • Update BIOS/UEFI to the latest version from the manufacturer
    • Install the latest chipset, storage, and network drivers

If possible, please let me know whether your system has any additional internal hardware or expansion cards, so we can narrow this down further if needed.

While my initial response may not fully resolve the issue, I truly appreciate your cooperation as we work together toward identifying the most effective solution. Thank you so much for your understanding.

The error 0xC1900101 – 0x30018 during an in‑place upgrade of Windows 10 22H2 indicates a driver or background software problem during the FIRST_BOOT phase. Use the following steps, which are based on the documented guidance for 0xC1900101 errors and other upgrade failures.

    1. Remove third‑party antivirus/antispyware and security tools
      • Uninstall all non‑Microsoft antivirus, antispyware, and firewall products (for example Malwarebytes firewall, Simplewall, and similar tools).
      • Restart the PC after uninstalling them.
    2. Perform a clean boot to eliminate background processes
      • Configure Windows to start with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs (clean boot). This reduces interference from background apps and services that can cause setup to terminate unexpectedly.
      • After configuring the clean boot, restart the PC and run the in‑place upgrade again.
    3. Disconnect unnecessary hardware
      • Disconnect all non‑essential peripherals (USB drives, external disks, printers, cameras, etc.), leaving only keyboard, mouse, and display connected.
      • Try the in‑place upgrade again.
    4. Repair system files and Windows image, then retry
      • Open Command Prompt as administrator.
      • Run:
        • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
        • When it completes successfully, run sfc /scannow and wait for 100%.
      • Close Command Prompt and retry the in‑place upgrade.
    5. If upgrade still fails, do a repair reinstall of the current version
      • Use the documented method to reinstall the current version of Windows while keeping files and apps. This can repair servicing components that block updates and upgrades.

If these steps succeed, the in‑place upgrade/repair to Windows 10 22H2 should complete without rolling back at 48%.
