Game Assist widget won’t install in Microsoft Edge or Game Bar on Windows 11

Question

Hello everyone,

I’m having a problem with the Game Assist widget. When I try to install it in Microsoft Edge, nothing happens and it does not install at all.

I’m using Windows 11 Pro 25H2, build 26200.8457. I already have the latest version of Microsoft Edge and Game Bar installed. I also tried repairing the apps through the Windows Settings app, but the issue is still there and nothing works.

Things I already tried:

• Updated Microsoft Edge
• Updated Game Bar
• Repaired the apps in Settings
• Restarted my PC

Unfortunately, the widget still will not install.

Has anyone experienced this problem before or knows how to fix it? Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you, Ali. Even if SFC shows the system is fine, a repair install still helps fix Windows issues. You can also go to Settings > System > Fix problems with Windows Update, which is technically the same method if it is suitable.

Also, making a new user account can be tried.

1. Open the Settings app by clicking on the Start menu and selecting the gear icon.
2. Click on "Accounts."
3. Click on "Family & other users" in the left-hand menu.
4. Under "Other users," click on "Add someone else to this PC."
5. Select "I don't have this person's sign-in information."
6. Click on "Add a user without a Microsoft account."
7. Enter a username and password for the new account.
8. Click "Next," then "Finish."

The repair install does not cause any harm, nor is any data lost with this step. This is a sure-shot way to resolve the problem.

The last option you can try is https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/games-apps/troubleshooting/gaming-services-repair-tool Gaming Services repair tool. If it does not help, proceed with Repair install please.

Please try a repair install as the next step. It keeps everything, including apps and files, and reinstalls Windows.

Repair Install Windows 11 using an ISO file

Could you please let me know if you could use Game Bar in the Edge Dev version?

• Try to use GameAssist in that installation.

Game Assist depends on specific Windows and Edge components, so focus on confirming compatibility and that all required pieces are fully updated and healthy.

1. Confirm Game Assist compatibility
   • Game Assist comes included with Microsoft Edge 137+ on Windows 11 Home, Education, and Pro and requires Windows 11 22H2 or later with the most recent updates, plus the latest Game Bar.
   • Verify that Windows 11 is fully updated (including any cumulative and optional updates), even though already on 25H2.
2. Verify Edge and Windows Web Experience components
   • Game Assist is built on Microsoft Edge and uses the same backend data as Edge on desktop.
   • Widgets and similar web-powered experiences in Windows require the latest Windows Web Experience Pack and Microsoft Edge to work correctly. If these components are out of date or corrupted, web-based widgets (including Game Assist) can fail to install or function.
   • Update both components:
     1. Open Microsoft Store.
     2. Go to Library > Get updates and install all available updates, especially for Windows Web Experience Pack and Microsoft Edge.
     3. Restart Windows and try installing Game Assist again from Settings and more (… ) in Microsoft Edge by searching for Game Assist.
3. Repair or reset supporting apps
   • Since repair was already tried, also consider a reset (which is stronger than repair) for:
     • Microsoft Edge
     • Xbox Game Bar
     • Microsoft Store (which delivers the Web Experience Pack)
   • Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select each app > Advanced options > Reset (note this may clear app-specific settings).
   • Restart and retry the Game Assist install.
4. Reinstall Edge on top of the existing installation
   • If Game Assist still will not install, reinstall Edge in place so its components are refreshed without removing data:
     • Download the latest Microsoft Edge installer from the official Edge download page and run it to reinstall Edge over the current version.
   • After reinstalling, restart Windows, open Edge, confirm it is updated, then try installing Game Assist again from Edge’s Settings and more (… ) menu.
5. If the widget still fails to install
   • Because Game Assist is tightly coupled to Edge and Windows components, and 25H2 builds are still evolving, issues can be resolved by subsequent cumulative updates. If all steps above fail, wait for the next Windows and Edge updates and install them as soon as they are available, then retry.
