OneDrive v26.078.0426 won't start on Mac (MacBook Air M1, macOS 26.4.1)

What does this even mean? I've tried uninstalling and then reinstalling OneDrive, resetting it with a Terminal command, and even restarting my computer, but that's still not fixing the issue. Please help me quickly as I hate not having OneDrive.

Same issue for us and we have an increasing issue across our estate of 500 devices. We've stopped the update going out via MDM enforcement but can't see a solution. The standalone version of the website works differently and isn't a 'swap out' by any means.

If you have the time and just the one install - you can swap out to this version from the MS site. It doesn't pick up on existing OneDrive config though and it's a bit of a fight but does ultimately work for a one-off.

This is one of the only make flaws (and has been since the outset) of the App Store - no ability to install a previous version. Even going back 1 or 2 versions would solve 99% of issues that crop up! It could easily be done and set as an option from the developer but hey - what do I know other than we have a failed app and no solution for a large install base.... It's essential in an enterprise environment heck, even Ubiquiti have come around to this idea ;-)

We're still working on it and will post up anything if we find something useful...

This particular Mac App Store version was faulty. Other Mac users running OneDrive 26.078.0426 have reported this exact message after an update. Check out this thread https://learn.microsoft.com/en-au/answers/questions/5897266/onedrive-for-mac-failed-to-launch-after-update

Do this -

Uninstall OneDrive app.
Restart the Mac.
Download OneDrive directly from Microsoft’s website, rather than the Mac App Store. You can download it from here: https://www.microsoft.com/microsoft-365/onedrive/download

Microsoft’s own Mac reinstall instructions also recommend removing the application and downloading a fresh copy from its website. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/onedrive/reinstall-onedrive (see the macOS tab)

Do NOT delete your OneDrive folder from "Library/CloudStorage".

OK - so the issue appears to be within the App manifest with missing items. This is inside the app - not an external support folder. There is NO way to fix this as it will break the code-sign and notarisation.

...Short or editing a copy of the app, re-code signing and notarising then distributing and that's a big no-no and not even sure if that would work.....

Think we are stuck waiting for MS...

In the meantime - all I can offer is if you locate a device that has an older version of the app eg 26.070.xxxx (via VPP), zip it and distribute to anyone who is affected. Then bin their app and replace with this version and their running. As long as you disable updates - that should solve for the immediate. Far from ideal but it's something.

Note - I don't believe this will work for non VPP installs eg sharing personal App Store downloads....
