Unable to Sign into Xbox Live (and by extention the Minecraft Launcher) on Windows Laptop

I've had several issues logging into minecraft ever since Microsoft took over. I literally bought an entirely mew $35 copy on a seperate microsoft account JUST to fix these issues. When I try to login to the minecraft launcher, it redirects me to the Xbox app. It says [old account] "no longer exists" and to log in with a new one. I type my new email, and use my "passkey" which is a 4 digit pin number. I've gotten 3 different errors saying to try again later. I know this email and passkey is correct, as I've JUST used it to log into the Microsoft Store.

Things I've tried:

  • Restarting Computer
  • Uninstalling & Reinstalling Xbox app AND Minecraft Launcher
  • Disabling Windows Hello
Windows for home | Windows 11 | Gaming

    Hello Wyatt Mattson,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

It's unfortunate to hear what you're going through with your game. Before we proceed further, may I have a photo of the error message so I can check for you? Please remember to remove all personal information before posting.

    I'm waiting for your reply.

Follow these steps in order, focusing on account sign-in and Xbox/Minecraft integration on Windows 11:

    1. Verify the Microsoft account itself
      • Use the Microsoft account Sign-in Helper to confirm that the new email and password are valid and that there are no security or lockout issues on the account.
      • If the helper detects a problem, follow the steps it provides (for example, password reset or security verification).
    2. Confirm Windows sign-in and account health
    3. Align Microsoft Store and Xbox app accounts Account mismatch between Microsoft Store and Xbox app can cause sign-in and entitlement issues for games like Minecraft.
      • Close Microsoft Store and Xbox app completely.
      • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:
        • wsreset.exe
      • When Microsoft Store reopens after wsreset:
        • Sign in using the same Microsoft account that owns the new Minecraft purchase.
      • Reset the Xbox app to clear conflicting data:
        • Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Xbox app → Advanced options → Reset.
      • Open the Xbox app again and sign in with exactly the same Microsoft account used in Microsoft Store.
      • Then open the Minecraft Launcher and sign in; it should now pick up the same account and entitlements.
    4. Ensure Gaming Services and Xbox app are healthy Problems with Gaming Services or the Xbox app can block sign-in.
      • Update/reinstall Gaming Services:
        1. Open PowerShell as Administrator.
        2. Run: get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
        3. In the same PowerShell window, run: start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN
        4. Install Gaming Services from the Store page that opens.
      • Reinstall the Xbox app (if not already done using this method):
        1. In PowerShell as Administrator, run: get-appxpackage Microsoft.XboxApp | remove-AppxPackage -allusers
        2. Then run: start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9mv0b5hzvk9z
        3. Install the Xbox app from the Store page.
      • After reinstalling, sign in to Microsoft Store and Xbox app with the same account, then try Minecraft Launcher again.
    5. Use the standard Minecraft Launcher once after fixing accounts
      • If a third-party client is being used, first:
        • Launch the official Minecraft Launcher from the Start menu.
        • Sign in with the correct Microsoft account.
        • Confirm that the launcher shows the purchased edition and allows access.
      • Once the official launcher recognizes the purchase, third-party clients that rely on Xbox/Microsoft sign-in often start working as well.
    6. If the account “no longer exists” or username is not recognized
      • If any sign-in flow reports that the old account “no longer exists” or that a username cannot be found, use:
      • From there:
        • Use Look up your Microsoft account if unsure about the exact email.
        • If the account truly no longer exists (for example, deleted after long inactivity), it cannot be reused; ensure the Minecraft license is associated with the new, working account.

If, after these steps, sign-in still fails specifically with Xbox/Minecraft while other Microsoft services work, use the Sign-in Helper again and, if needed, proceed to the “I need to talk to a customer support agent” option from the same article to have support review the account and purchase association.
