I didn't replace the mouse, because in the meantime the problem was solved, apparently by my tinkering around with settings. I turned off notifications among other things. To elaborate there was a sound as though some post or notification had been made then the mouse stopped working until a few seconds after there was another different sound and it started working again. I thought it might be a battery saving function, but there seems to be no real way to check if this could turn off the USB mouse. In any case I always use the computer plugged into mains.
Intermittent USB mouse problem
I am running Win 11 on power not battery. I have an intermittent USB mouse problem, where it stops working and then starts working again after a few seconds signalled by a sound on and off. I thought this might be as a result of notifications or some power saving function, but I have trawled through the Settings and the Device Manager changing a few items such as turning off notifications without success. All drivers are up to date as far as I can see. Has anyone any ideas? I've looked through other similar problems but can find nothing relevant.

Did you try testing it with another USB mouse? It could be a hardware failure with the mouse itself.
When it stops working, does it give any "unknown USB" alert?
Thanks
