Capacity is stuck on Pausing.

I had an issue where my instance started getting really slow when I added a new column to a table. I removed that table. The performance was still being really slow so I ended up pausing the capacity and now it's stuck in the pausing status. If I press pause again, an error message pops up but it just says "unknown error" with no other details telling me what's wrong.

This is a known issue where the capacity operation gets stuck in a transitional state (Pausing) due to a failed backend operation. The “unknown error” indicates the operation didn’t complete properly on Microsoft’s side.

Try below are a Quick Fix:

    1. Wait 30–60 minutes
      • Let the backend operation timeout (don’t keep clicking pause)
    2. Try Resume → Pause
      • Click Resume
      • Once active → click Pause again
    3. Refresh portal
      • Hard refresh or use another browser
      • Check if status updates
    4. Try CLI / PowerShell (force resume)
    5. Check Azure Service Health
      • Look for any outages affecting capacity services
