An Azure relational database service.
This is a known issue where the capacity operation gets stuck in a transitional state (Pausing) due to a failed backend operation. The “unknown error” indicates the operation didn’t complete properly on Microsoft’s side.
Try below are a Quick Fix:
- Wait 30–60 minutes
- Let the backend operation timeout (don’t keep clicking pause)
- Try Resume → Pause
- Click Resume
- Once active → click Pause again
- Refresh portal
- Hard refresh or use another browser
- Check if status updates
- Try CLI / PowerShell (force resume)
- Check Azure Service Health
- Look for any outages affecting capacity services
