Hi Sam,
Thanks for sharing the details - when both the touchscreen and Surface Pen stop responding at the same time, it usually indicates the issue is related to the touch/digitizer system (either driver-related or hardware-related).
Here are some quick steps to help you narrow it down and resolve it:
1, Check if it’s hardware or Windows-related - this is the most important step:
- Shut down your Surface
- Press and hold Volume Up + Power to enter UEFI
- Try using touch in that menu
Result:
- If touch doesn’t work here > it likely requires hardware service
- If touch works normally > continue with the steps below
2, Reinstall touchscreen drivers
- Open Device Manager
- Expand Human Interface Devices, uninstall:
- HID‑compliant touch screen
- Intel Precise Touch Device
- Restart the device
3, Install all Surface updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update
- Install all updates (including Optional updates)
4, Quick pen checks
- Ensure the pen has battery/charge
- Test it in apps like OneNote or Paint
- Re-pair via Bluetooth if needed
If touch worked in UEFI but still not in Windows, please consider a Reset this PC (keep files). I hope this helps point you in the right direction.
