I have updated my credit card but I keep getting messages about updating or losing my access. What is going on?

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

When you sign in to your Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com/services does the subscription show as active there, or still unpaid?

If active, please try these steps if you haven’t already:

    • Make sure you're signed in with the same Microsoft account that the subscription is linked to.
    • Then, open any Office app (like Word or Excel), go to File > Account, and click "Update License" to refresh your license status.

    If issue still persists:

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

    Here’s how:

    • Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
    • Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

    Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

    • Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services
    • Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
    • Find your Microsoft 365 Subscription and click the "Install".
    • That will download the installer for the Office apps, just run it and follow the steps.

If anything’s unclear or the "Install" option still doesn’t show, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to walk you through it!

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

The ongoing messages usually mean the Microsoft 365 subscription is still showing as expired or the updated payment method hasn’t fully cleared any past-due balance yet.

    Follow these steps in order:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active
      • Go to the Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the Microsoft 365 subscription.
      • Under Microsoft 365, check the status:
        • If it shows expired or suspended, renew it by following the renewal steps for Microsoft 365 Family/Personal.
    2. Verify payment information is fully up to date
      • Close all Office apps.
      • Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
      • If the payment method shows an error (for example, declined, expired, or needs attention), edit that payment method and ensure:
        • Card number, expiration date, and name are correct.
        • Billing address matches the card statement.
      • Save the changes.
    3. Restart Office apps
      • After confirming the subscription is active and payment info is correct, close and reopen Word/Excel/other Office apps.
      • The “Account Notice… problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription” bar should disappear once the subscription and payment status are fully in good standing.

If the subscription remains expired or suspended even after updating the card, the payment may still be failing and needs to be corrected on the Payment options page before the warning stops appearing.
