Support agents sometimes cannot send certain types of messages (such as verification codes or password reset links) and may direct to self-help or contact flows instead. If the promised instructions have not arrived, the following checks and actions are recommended:
- Check junk/spam and any custom inbox rules
- Verify that the message was not moved by a rule or spam filter into another folder or deleted automatically.
- In Outlook or other mail clients, review rules that might move or delete messages based on sender, subject, or keywords.
- Confirm that the mailbox accepts external email
- Ensure the mailbox or any distribution list used is allowed to receive messages from external senders and is not blocking Microsoft domains.
- If using an organizational mailbox, ask the mail administrator to confirm that external messages from Microsoft are not blocked or quarantined.
- Allow Microsoft and Azure sender addresses
- For alert or automated support-related messages, ensure that the following sender addresses are not blocked and are allowed through spam filters and security appliances:
-
azure-noreply@microsoft.com -
azureemail-noreply@microsoft.com -
******@mail.windowsazure.com
-
- If using an internal mailing list, test by adding a direct work email address (not a list) and see if messages arrive there.
- For alert or automated support-related messages, ensure that the following sender addresses are not blocked and are allowed through spam filters and security appliances:
- Verify that there is no unsubscribe or suppression
- If any previous Microsoft alert or notification email was unsubscribed from, new messages may be suppressed. Check prior Microsoft messages for unsubscribe actions and resubscribe if applicable.
- Use official Microsoft support entry points
- If the email still does not arrive, use the official support channels again and reference the existing case number so the agent can resend instructions or provide them via another method.
- For general Microsoft account or sign-in issues, use the Sign-in helper and, if needed, Contact Microsoft Support, select Get Help, then Contact Support.
- Be aware of security limits on what support can send
- Support agents are not allowed to send verification codes or password reset links, or to change account details directly. If the missing email was expected to contain such items, the agent may instead direct to self-service flows.
If, after these checks, the email is still missing, contact support again through the official channel, provide the case number and explain that the promised email did not arrive so they can review and resend using an allowed method.
