    Hi Mcdowell, Tyler

I understand you are unable to access your Outlook.com account because you are signed out of both your email and the Microsoft Authenticator app. I’m happy to help. Please reply with the following details

    • Do you still have access to a backup email or phone number?
    • Did you replace your phone, or are you locked out of the same device?
    • Do you see:
      • “Try another verification method”
      • “Account locked”
      • Or no alternate options at all?

    Meanwhile, please follow these steps:

Step 1: Use the Microsoft account sign-in helper

Start with the official recovery tool:

Step 2: Try another verification method

    On the sign-in screen:

    • Enter your email and password
    • Look for: “Try another verification method”
    • Choose any available option (email, phone, or other method)

Step 3: Restore Microsoft Authenticator (if you changed phones)

If you replaced your phone and had backup enabled:

    • Install Microsoft Authenticator on the new device
    • Open the app
    • Select Restore from backup
    • Sign in with your recovery account

    Important notes:

    • Backup/restore only works on the same device type (iPhone-to-iPhone or Android-to-Android)
    • You may still need to sign in again after restoring

Step 4: Troubleshoot verification code issues

If you are not receiving security codes:

    • Check your primary email or recovery email
    • Check your Junk/Spam folder
    • Avoid repeated requests (this can temporarily block delivery)
    • Wait some time and try again

Step 5: Unlock your account (if locked)

If you see an account locked message:

Step 6: Use the Microsoft account recovery form (if no access to any methods)

If you cannot use any verification methods:

    • Go to: Recover your account
    • Enter your account details
    • Provide as much information as possible
    • Submit the request

Microsoft will review your answers and respond, usually within 24 hours.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!

Use another verification method or recover the Microsoft account, then reconfigure Authenticator.

    1. Try other sign-in methods
      • Go to the Microsoft account sign-in page for the email address.
      • When prompted for the Microsoft Authenticator approval, choose Use a different verification option (or similar) and select:
        • Text message (SMS) code
        • Alternate email code
        • Security questions or other methods that were previously configured
      • Enter the code received and complete sign-in.
    2. If Authenticator is the only method or codes are not arriving
      • Use the Microsoft account sign-in helper / password reset flow to regain access:
        • Go through the Forgot password or I don’t have my Microsoft Authenticator app path.
        • Provide any available recovery info (alternate email, phone, etc.) and complete the verification.
      • If unable to restore Authenticator account credentials because the backup account cannot be accessed, support cannot restore those credentials. In that case, once access to the Microsoft account is recovered, accounts must be added to Authenticator again.
    3. After regaining access to the email account
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account dashboard and go to Security > Advanced security options.
      • Under Ways to prove who you are, remove old or lost devices (for example, old Authenticator registrations or devices listed under Send sign-in notification).
      • Reinstall Microsoft Authenticator on the new device and add the account again following the standard setup steps.

If authentication still fails with messages like Authentication did not complete, ensure:

    • Microsoft Authenticator is unlocked.
    • Notifications are enabled on the device.
    • The app is updated to the latest version.
    • The device has a working internet connection and correct date/time settings.
