Please login as the user XXX on a new VM from a custom image

I have created an image from a custome Linux machine I have created. The image allows root login with a simple ssh using a private key.
After creating a new VM from the custom image, the system throws this message:
Please login as the user XXXX rather than the user 'root'.

The user it asks for is the user mentioned at the end of the public key which I added to the authorized keys.
How can I avoid from this happening?
