I am using Outlook.com and I can't send emails to myself.

Please describe the behavior, what happens if you send an email to yourself? Did it get deleted, or what happened exactly? Any error message?

Nothing happens, no bounce back, it does not go to the deleted folder, or junk folder. No error messages.

Is this a outlook.com/hotmail.com domain address?

Please complete these steps on a computer, not on a smartphone or tablet.

First, go to https://www.outlook.com and sign in.

Click the gear icon in the top right corner to open Settings.

Under Mail, review the following areas:

Rules

If any rules are listed, delete all of them.

Conditional formatting

If anything is set up there, delete it.

Forwarding and IMAP

If you see any entries or settings you did not create, remove them. Turn off POP and IMAP.

Junk

Review Safe sender and blocked list. make sure it is not in the blocked list. Add it to the safe list.

Then do this on your phone if you ever use your phone to check emails. On your phone's local contact app, not the outlook contact, but the actual phone's contact app, make sure your email address is not blocked.

Then test again and see if it works.

Went through them all and none apply, tried adding the outlook.com to safe sender domain and it keeps giving me an error, something went wrong try again later.

If you go to https://account.live.com > Your info > Sign in preference. Can you see your outlook.com address listed?

Check these common causes in Outlook.com when sending to the same address as the sender:

Verify the message is actually being sent
- Look in Drafts and Outbox to ensure the message isn’t stuck.
- If it is, open it, then try sending again.
Check attachment size and mailbox/storage limits
- If the message has an attachment larger than 25 MB, remove it or upload the file to OneDrive and send a link instead, then resend.
- If the Inbox or Microsoft cloud storage is full, new messages (including those sent to self) cannot be sent or received. Free up space by emptying Junk Email (right-click Junk Email → Empty folder) and deleting unneeded mail, then try again.
Check for non-delivery reports (NDRs)
- If a delivery failure message is received, review the error reason (for example, mailbox full, invalid address, server issues, or spam filters). Follow the guidance in the NDR or see the “Sent email in Outlook.com comes back ‘delivery failed’” article for the specific error type.
Confirm account and sign-in status
- If email still cannot be sent or received, check the account status: update the password if recently changed or unblock the account if it was temporarily blocked due to unusual activity.
If nothing helps
- Use the Outlook.com interactive troubleshooter from the “Can’t send or receive email in Outlook.com” article, or use Help in Outlook.com to contact support for further investigation.
