Academic Verification successful, but promo link is locked to US market ("Change your region" error)

HELLO,

I recently requested academic verification for my student email and received a confirmation email from the Microsoft Academic Verification Team stating that my status was successfully verified.

The email contains a link to claim a 12-month free trial for Microsoft 365 Premium (campaign: StudentPremiumFree12M). However, when I click the link, it automatically directs me to the US checkout page (market=US).

Since I am located in Egypt and my payment methods (PayPal/Cards) are registered locally, I am unable to proceed with the activation. I keep getting the error message: "Change your region or add another way to pay."

How can I apply this 12-month free student promo to my account using my local region, or get a link that matches my geographical location, since my academic status is already verified?

Based on Microsoft’s official documentation, academic verification successfully confirms eligibility; however, regional limitations restrict promotional links to their designated market checkout flows (such as the US) without a public self-service conversion option.  

Furthermore, because billing and payment methods are strictly region-specific, redeeming an offer in a new location typically requires allowing any existing, region-bound Microsoft 365 subscription to expire or canceling it first. 

To help isolate the best path forward, please review the following points: 

1. Make sure you are redeeming with the same personal Microsoft account that is meant to receive the student offer. 
2. Verify that your Microsoft account country and region is set correctly before adding your local payment method. 
   1. After changing your account's country or region, then selecting Your info in Sign in then Edit profile info. 
   2. Once updated, go to the Payment options page of your Microsoft account dashboard. 
   3. Add the new details by selecting Add a new payment method. 
3. If you already have a Microsoft 365 consumer subscription tied to another region on that same account, that can block redemption in the new region. 

If the redemption link still forces market=US after that, the best next step is to contact Contact - Microsoft Support and ask them to review the campaign entitlement (StudentPremiumFree12M) and whether a region-correct redemption path is available for your country.

The promo link is locked to the US market, so it cannot be redeemed in a different country/region such as Egypt. Microsoft 365 offers and product keys must be redeemed in the same country/region where they were issued or purchased; changing the account region or payment method does not bypass this restriction.

To proceed, there are only two supported paths:

1. Use the offer in the US region
   • This requires that the Microsoft account, region, and payment method all be valid for the US market. Since the payment methods are registered in Egypt, this is not a viable option in the current setup.
2. Contact Microsoft support to review or adjust the offer
   • Because the promo campaign link is hard‑coded to market=US, only Microsoft support can confirm whether there is an equivalent Egypt‑region offer or provide an alternative redemption path.
   • Use the regional Microsoft Store/Microsoft 365 support channel for Egypt listed under Microsoft Store purchases, or the general Microsoft 365/Office support contact options, and provide:
     • The academic verification confirmation
     • The campaign name (StudentPremiumFree12M)
     • The exact error message (“Change your region or add another way to pay”) and the fact that the link forces market=US

If the school is not recognized as a qualified academic institution in the local region, only commercial or nonprofit offers will be available; in that case, support can confirm eligibility and available alternatives.
