    Hi @Thom Kurmel

According to your situation, since you are the only Global Administrator and you are completely locked out from the tenant. So, only Microsoft Support team can help you in this issue. You might need to contact us via phone service number: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support. The agent will be able to create a ticket for you under the affected tenant and then transfer this ticket to Data Protection team who could help you to regain access.

When a call is made to support, the first step is to provide an automated voice response from AI. Be careful, you won't be able to speak to a support representative if you don't respond appropriately here.

Here's an example of a response that actually led to a support representative. Please refer to it.

    Q. Can you tell me if you are calling as a home user who uses a product or service at home or a business user who uses it in your business to provide the best assistance?
    A.I am a business user.
    Q. Thank you. Can you give me the details of your inquiry?
    A. Login technical support.
    Q. First of all, can you tell me which products you are inquiring about today?
    A. Microsoft 365 business Standard。
    Q. Please wait a moment, I understand Microsoft 365. Are you calling about a new case or an existing one?
    A. New.
    Q. To receive phone support, your phone number must be associated with your Microsoft 365 admin profile. To do this, go to aka.ms/m365profile. Again, it aka.ms/m365profile . This can take 48 hours. In the meantime, you can go to aka.ms/m365profile and file a case online. If you prefer, you can also text the link to the phone number you are calling. What do you think?
    A. The phone number is already linked to the link.
    Q. Can you tell me about the products in your inquiry?
    A. Microsoft 365 Business Standard.
    Q. Are you a Global Administrator?
    A. That's right.
    Q. I'm sorry. I didn't understand. Are you a global administrator for your domain?
    A. Yes, I am a global administrator for the domain.
    Q. If you have any inquiries, you can contact a Microsoft representative. Are you sure?
    A. Yes. Please.
    Q. Yes, I understand. Please wait a moment.

    I hope this helps.

I tried to call the support center but cannot get the prompts to get me to a human being, I keep being bumped out. I am not able to gain access to the admin center either as I get an error message disallowing me to be authenticated.

    Hi @Thom Kurmel

For Microsoft 365 Business trials, cancellation must be done from the Microsoft 365 admin center, and it requires an account with admin permissions such as Global admin or Billing admin. Therefore, you need to regain access first.

Since you mentioned that you cannot access the admin center, we’ll first need to understand why access is not available, as that determines the next steps. Could you help clarify a few points:

    • Are you signing in with the account you received in the setup or confirmation email when the tenant was created (often something like admin@<tenant>.onmicrosoft.com), or could you be using a different account?
    • Are you blocked due to MFA?
    • Do you receive any specific error message when trying to access the admin center? If possible, please share screenshots.

Once we understand the exact reason you cannot access the admin center, we can guide you on the correct recovery path or next steps to proceed with cancellation.

    Looking forward to your update.

If access to the Microsoft 365 admin center is unavailable, the trial cannot be canceled directly there, but future charges can still be avoided depending on how the trial was set up.

    1. If recurring billing is enabled and admin center access is available later:
      • Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center when possible.
      • Turn off recurring billing for the trial subscription. This stops renewal and charges; the trial will expire automatically at the end of the period.
    2. If recurring billing was set up but admin center access cannot be regained:
      • The documented path is to cancel via the admin center. If that is not possible (for example, because sign-in is blocked by MFA or account issues), contact Microsoft support by phone and have a support agent cancel or turn off recurring billing on the tenant. For business tenants where the only admin is locked out, the frontline support can escalate to the Data Protection team to help regain access or perform actions on the subscription.
    3. If the trial has no payment method:
      • If the trial subscription does not have a payment method associated with it, it can simply be allowed to expire at the end of the trial period; no charges are made.
    4. If the trial was created as a self-service purchase by a user and another admin has access:
      • An admin with access to the admin center can go to Billing > Your products, filter by Self-service, select the trial, choose Take control of this subscription, and then Cancel subscription. This deletes the self-service trial and removes access for assigned users.
    5. If a new temporary tenant is needed to reach support:
      • A new Microsoft 365 trial tenant can be created solely to access the Microsoft 365 admin center and open a support ticket (via Help & support) asking support to assist with the original tenant (for example, to regain access or cancel/turn off recurring billing). After resolution, the temporary trial should be canceled so it does not convert to a paid subscription.

In all cases, if data was stored in the trial tenant (email, OneDrive, SharePoint), it should be backed up before cancellation or before the trial expires, because user access to data ends when the subscription is canceled or expires and data may be deleted after a retention period.
