How to save an added audio from PowerPoint after downloading.

I have added audio from my computer downloads to my PowerPoint slides. I have tried many ways to download this file, and it either does not have the audio at all or only plays the audio on the first slide, so once I press the next PowerPoint slide, it shuts off. Many of the how-to guides are outdated to the point where my Microsoft PowerPoint no longer has the same tabs.

Here is Microsoft's page showing Audio formats that are compatible with PowerPoint: Video and audio file formats supported in PowerPoint Using.M4A files encoded with AAC audio is most likely to work in all versions of PowerPoint.

When you refer to "downloading" your file, where is the source from which you are downloading? You may get better results by working with the presentation on your hard disk instead of added audio while it is on a cloud service.

When looking for information about PowerPoint for Mac, include "for Mac" in double quotes in your search term, to weed out a lot of irrelevant information.

To both keep the audio with the presentation and have it play across slides on macOS, use two separate steps: (1) insert and configure the audio correctly in PowerPoint, and (2) save/export the presentation in a way that preserves the embedded media.

1. Insert and configure audio on macOS
2. In Normal view, select the first slide where the audio should start.
3. On the ribbon, select Insert > Audio.
4. Choose Audio from File and select the audio file from Downloads (or wherever it is stored), then select Insert.
5. With the audio icon selected on the slide, go to the Playback tab.
6. To have the audio play automatically when the slide appears, set Start > Automatically.
7. To have the audio continue beyond the first slide:
   • On the Playback tab, select Play across Slides.
   • If the audio should loop for the whole show, also select Loop Until Stopped.

This ensures the audio does not stop when advancing to the next slide.

2. Save the presentation with embedded audio

When the audio is inserted from file as above, it is embedded in the PowerPoint file. To keep the audio with the presentation:

• Use File > Save (or Save As) and keep it as a standard PowerPoint file (e.g., .pptx). This keeps the embedded audio.
• When sharing, send the .pptx file itself. Recipients must use a version of PowerPoint that supports the media format (see supported formats below).

3. Save the audio itself out of PowerPoint (if needed)

If the goal is to extract the audio file that was embedded in the presentation (for reuse elsewhere):

1. Right-click (Control-click) the audio icon on the slide.
2. Select Save Media as.
3. Choose a folder and file name, then select Save.

Notes for macOS:

• Saving embedded media as a separate file is available only for Microsoft 365 subscribers on macOS, beginning with version 16.24.
• If Save Media as does not appear, the PowerPoint version does not support extracting media.

4. Check audio format compatibility

If the audio disappears or does not play after saving or sharing, verify that the audio format is supported on the target device. For Office for iOS and Android, supported audio formats include:

• .mp3
• .m4a / .mp4
• .aiff, .au (iOS)
• .wav, .mid, .midi (Android)

If needed, convert the audio to one of these formats and reinsert it using Insert > Audio > Audio from File.
