This morning I had a "windows-defender" lock on my computer. Not realizing this could be a scam I called the 1.866.396.6102 number. They gained access to my computer and I'm thinking they copied all of my data.

I've locked most of my financial accounts . No discrepancy seen yet. They gave me a number of 172202102 which is probably bogus. How can I get my computer back to what it was and going forward to have the appropriate protection. I currently have Webroot, but have seen no issues.

Is there a way to report this to the authorities.

Have you had experience with this particular issue that you've gained information to help others who have been affected.? So far, I'm not able to access all of my prompts in Excel. Probably others I haven't tried to use yet.

Thanks

    Hello Jan Key,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

It's unfortunate to hear about what happened to you. Regarding on what you should do to report to the authority, you can go to a local police station to report this or call them to report what happened.

It's good that you have locked most of your financial accounts, that will make sure that they cannot make any unauthorized purchases under your name. The next part is the files access; may I know what happens to your prompts in Excel?

Since we cannot be sure if he only copied your data or install any other suspicious apps to your computer. My suggestion is that you should backup your files and clean install it. This should remove any spywares or virus that might have been installed in the computer. Also, please change the password of all accounts in your computer and set up 2FA if possible to secure it.

    I'm waiting for your reply.
