Latest version of Onenote on a M4 mac mini. Also, is copilot supposed to work on Onenote for mac? I heard it doesn't support the mac version.

    Hi @FlyinHawaiian

    Thank you for your inquiry.

According to current Microsoft documentation, custom tags are supported within OneNote for Mac. The official support article outlines the following procedure to create a custom tag:

    1. Navigate to the Home tab.
    2. Access the Tags gallery and select Create New Tag.
    3. Input a name, choose a preferred icon, and select Create.

Therefore, if selecting "Create New Tag" results in a blank pane, an indefinite loading indicator, or a complete lack of response, this behavior deviates from the standard operational flow outlined in the official documentation.

Regarding Microsoft Copilot, the feature is supported within OneNote for Mac under specific licensing conditions. Copilot is available in OneNote for Microsoft 365 on Windows, Mac, and iPad, as well as OneNote for the web, for users holding a Microsoft 365 Copilot (Work) license.

For Mac, please note that Copilot in OneNote requires a stable internet connection, a Microsoft 365 Copilot Business subscription, and connected experiences enabled.

Regarding can’t not create custom tag in MacOS, I have also seen several recent forum reports from other users describing very similar behavior on OneNote for Mac, so you do not appear to be the only one seeing this.

At the same time, I was not able to find an official Microsoft announcement in the support content reviewed that confirms this as an issue, so for now it is best to treat it as an issue that should be reported directly from the app.

If you are getting this problem, please report it in OneNote by going to: OneNote > Help > Feedback > Report a Problem

I hope this helps and should you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out.

Custom tags are not supported in OneNote, including on Mac. Only the built-in note tags listed by Microsoft can be used; the platform does not allow defining or using additional custom tags beyond that built-in set.

Regarding Copilot: Copilot in OneNote is supported on OneNote for Microsoft 365 for Mac, provided the environment meets the requirements. Specifically, it is available to customers with a Microsoft 365 Copilot (Work) license in OneNote for Microsoft 365 for Mac, and requires:

    • A stable internet connection
    • A Microsoft 365 Copilot Business subscription
    • Connected experiences enabled

On Mac, Copilot is accessed from the Home tab by selecting the Copilot button to open the Copilot pane.
