Follow these checks and fixes in order, testing Copilot in Edge after each step:
- Verify account, region, and platform
- Copilot in Edge depends on account type, region, and platform.
- Confirm the signed-in profile meets the requirements: see the “Verify regional availability and account type” section referenced from the Copilot icon article, and ensure use of a supported desktop Windows edition (not Xbox or PWA/Web App windows).
- Check if the issue is connectivity to the Copilot service Because the pane is blank and queries just spin, treat this as a loading/connectivity problem:
- Confirm the device has an active internet connection.
- In Edge, open a new tab and go to the Copilot Chat service endpoint used by the profile:
- Consumer accounts:
https://edgeservices.bing.com/edgesvc/shell. - Enterprise/commercial profiles: a configured MetaOS App Service endpoint. If the page does not load, a network or firewall rule (including security software) is blocking access; adjust Norton 360/network rules to allow that endpoint.
- Consumer accounts:
- If the endpoint is reachable but Copilot still does not load after several retries, check the Microsoft 365 Service health status page for a possible outage and try again later.
- Fix authentication issues in the Copilot pane If the Copilot pane shows Sign in or Try again:
- Select Sign in and complete the sign-in flow.
- If Try again appears, sign out of the Edge profile and sign back in, then reopen Copilot.
- For work/school (Entra ID) profiles, ensure the Bing AAD enrollment cookie is present; if it is missing or changed, the pane will refresh to re-establish authentication.
- If Copilot does not auto-refresh after sign-in/out or account switch, close and reopen the sidebar.
- Check policy-based blocking of Copilot Chat If this is a managed/enterprise device, policies may block Copilot Chat:
- Go to
edge://policyand review:-
EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostBlockList -
EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostAllowList
-
- If
EdgeSidebarAppUrlHostBlockListis set to*(block all), ensureEdgeSidebarAppUrlHostAllowListincludes all required entries:-
edge://discover-chat(all versions) -
edge://commercial-copilot-chat(Edge 146+) -
chrome-untrusted://commercial-copilot-chat(Edge 146+) -
edge://hub-app-store(needed only in Edge 145 and earlier)
-
- If entries are missing, have the administrator add them via Group Policy/Intune/MDM, then restart Edge.
- If the Copilot icon itself disappears If, after troubleshooting, the icon is missing entirely, also check:
- Sidebar and Copilot settings:
edge://settings/appearance/copilotAndSidebarto ensure the sidebar is Always on and Copilot is enabled. - Policies at
edge://policysuch asHubsSidebarEnabled,ExtensionInstallBlocklist, andExtensionInstallAllowlistto ensure Copilot and the sidebar are not disabled. - Edge version: update Edge via
edge://settings/helpto at least version 111 and restart. - Regional/account availability as noted above.
- Test in a new Edge profile; if Copilot works there, reset settings in the original profile via
edge://settings/reset→ Restore settings to their default values (noting this resets startup page, new tab page, search engine, pinned tabs, disables extensions, and clears temporary data, but keeps favorites, history, and saved passwords).
If none of these steps restore Copilot, collect diagnostics (Edge version, active policies export, sidebar settings screenshot, account type, OS version) and provide them when opening a support request.
