I would like to deactivate Copilot on Bing Microsoft Edge.

Hi,

Are you referring to Copilot responses in Bing search results? If so, unfortunately, there's is no method to disable it. Bing does not provide an option to turn off Copilot answers in their search results unlike other search engines. If you do not like having AI answers, the best course of action is to submit your concern directly to the Bing team by clicking the Feedback button on the bottom right corner of the Bing page or through the Feedback Portal.

As for the Copilot in Edge, you can turn off all related options in Settings > Copilot and AI in the latest version of Edge.

To deactivate or limit Copilot in Microsoft Edge/Bing, there are two main approaches: user settings in Edge and (for organizations) admin policies.

1. Turn off Copilot entry points and page context in Edge (user)

a. Hide the Copilot button and block page content access

1. Open Microsoft Edge.
2. Go to Settings > Appearance > Copilot and Sidebar > Copilot.
3. Turn off Show Copilot button on the toolbar.
4. Turn off Allow Microsoft to access page content (or similar wording such as Allow Copilot to read context clues on the web). This prevents Copilot from using webpage/PDF content when formulating responses.

b. Disable context clues and personalization

1. Open the Edge sidebar.
2. Select the More menu (…) in the sidebar, then Settings > Privacy.
3. Turn off Context clues to stop Copilot from using the current webpage, browser history, or browser preferences.
4. Turn off Personalization and memory to stop Copilot from using memory from previous conversations, Bing/MSN activity, or inferred interests.

c. Control Copilot Actions site permissions

1. Go to Settings > AI innovations in Edge.
2. Choose a stricter level:
   • Strict (most secure): Copilot always asks before working on any site.
   • Balanced: Asks on unfamiliar sites.
3. Optionally add specific sites to the block list so Copilot will never be able to act on them.
4. Admin controls for organizations (Edge work profiles)

If using an Entra (work) account and Edge is managed, admins can centrally control Copilot:

1. To block Copilot Chat in Edge entirely, configure the HubsSidebarEnabled policy to disable the Edge sidebar. This automatically blocks Copilot Chat in the Edge sidebar.
2. To prevent Copilot Chat from using browsing context (webpage/PDF content) for Entra-signed profiles, configure the EdgeEntraCopilotPageContext policy.
3. To prevent Microsoft Copilot (personal use) from using page context when users are signed in with a personal Bing account in a work profile, configure the CopilotPageContext policy.
4. On Android/iOS Edge, use the EdgeCopilotEnabled policy:
   • If disabled, users cannot use Copilot in Microsoft Edge.
   • If enabled, users must keep Copilot on and cannot turn it off.
5. Turn off Copilot new tab page (if applicable)

If the new tab page shows a Copilot experience:

1. Open a new tab in Edge.
2. Select the Settings (gear) icon on the new tab page.
3. Select Manage Copilot new tab page (edge://settings/ai).
4. Turn off Copilot new tab page (availability depends on organization settings).
5. Data and history considerations

Even when Copilot UI is hidden, conversation history may still exist from past use:

1. Copilot queries and responses are stored as conversation history until deleted.
2. To delete all conversations with Copilot, go to the Privacy Dashboard > Browsing and search > Copilot activity history > Clear all (for Microsoft account–signed users).

These steps either fully disable Copilot in Edge (where policies allow) or remove its UI and prevent it from using page context and personalization, effectively deactivating it for browsing.
