Missing Emails

I have microsoft 365 personal

I am using outlook

Focused inbox is off

My emails that are older than 12 days are missing from my inbox

I do not have any "Rules"

I can search for them and sometimes I can locate them. I pinned these emails and they still disappeared

I tried to find the "Filter" option but could not locate it in the settings area.

How do I get my emails to stay in my inbox for longer than 12 days?

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

Which Outlook do you mean - Outlook online, new Outlook for Windows, new Outlook for Mac, classic Outlook for Windows, Legacy Outlook for Mac, Outlook for iOS, Outlook for Android? Personal or business Microsoft 365 subscription? Who is your mail provider - that is, what follows the @ in your address?

Use these checks in Outlook.com / Outlook on the web to keep messages in Inbox beyond 12 days:

    1. Check Junk, Deleted Items, Archive, and Other
    • Go to the Junk Email, Deleted Items, and Archive folders and look for the missing messages. If found:
      • In Junk: select the message → Not junk > Not junk.
      • In Deleted Items: select the message → Restore.
      • In Archive: select the message → Move to > Inbox.
    • If Focused Inbox was ever on, also check the Other tab and move any misclassified messages to Focused inbox.
    1. Check filters on the Inbox view
    • In Outlook.com, above the message list, select Filter and set it to All so older mail is not hidden by a date or unread filter.
    • On mobile apps or mobile browser, clear any filter shown above the message list.
    1. Check rules that might move or delete mail
    • Go to Outlook.com Rules settings and review Inbox rules and Sweep rules.
    • Disable or delete any rule that moves messages out of Inbox or deletes them.
    • If using Mail and Calendar for Windows 10 or Outlook desktop as well, also check rules there (Home → RulesManage Rules and Alerts).
    1. Check blocked senders
    • In Outlook.com / Outlook on the web: SettingsMailBlocked senders or Block and allow.
    • Remove any legitimate senders or domains from the blocked list so future messages stay in Inbox.
    1. Recover if they were deleted
    • In Deleted Items, if the messages are not visible, select Recover items deleted from this folder and restore any needed messages (within the 30‑day recovery window).
    1. Confirm account is still active
    • If Outlook.com has not been signed into for a long time, the mailbox can be closed and mail deleted. Ensure regular sign‑in so the mailbox stays active.

After these steps, new messages should remain in Inbox; previously moved or deleted items can be restored from Junk, Deleted Items, Archive, or the recovery view where still available.
