I changed my email password on att.net and it works fine on the att.net. I changed it on I-phone and it works fine. I cannot get it to work with Outlook classic. I have tried numerous times (copying the pw and typing it in) to no avail. Any help appreciated.

Hi

I understand you are having a problem with your att.net email account not connecting in Classic Outlook for Windows after changing the AT&T password. I am happy to help.

Since your new password works on att.net webmail and on your iPhone, the mailbox itself is likely still active. Please follow these steps:

Use the Secure Mail Key in Classic Outlook

  • Open Classic Outlook.
  • Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
  • Select the att.net account, then choose Change or Server Settings.
  • Replace the saved password with the Secure Mail Key, not the normal AT&T password.
  • Save the changes and restart Outlook.

Verify the account settings in Outlook

If Outlook still cannot connect, please confirm the server settings exactly as follows.

For IMAP

  • Incoming server: imap.mail.att.net
  • Incoming port: 993
  • Encryption: SSL
  • Outgoing server: smtp.mail.att.net
  • Outgoing port: 465 or 587
  • Username: your full att.net email address
  • Password: your Secure Mail Key

For POP

  • Incoming server: inbound.att.net
  • Incoming port: 995
  • Encryption: SSL
  • Outgoing server: outbound.att.net
  • Outgoing port: 465
  • Username: your full att.net email address
  • Password: your Secure Mail Key

If the account still fails, remove and re-add it in Outlook

  • Close Outlook.
  • Open Control Panel > Mail > Email Accounts.
  • Remove the failing att.net account.
  • Select New.
  • Choose manual setup and add the account as IMAP using the settings listed above.
  • When Outlook asks for the password, enter the Secure Mail Key.

Please tell me how it goes. If the problem persists, please don’t hesitate to reply to this thread and I will be happy to help. Have a lovely day!
