To cancel the subscription that was purchased with the PayPal account, you can use the steps provided on this link, then while managing the subscription remove the recurring billing on the PayPal account.

To get the money back and stop PayPal being used for the subscription, take these steps:

    1. Investigate the charge
      • Go to the Manage your payments page from the Microsoft account dashboard and select Investigate on the PayPal charge. This helps confirm which subscription and account the payment is tied to. For more detail, see the guidance in How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft.
    2. Check and fix the subscription’s payment method
      • Go to Services & subscriptions for the Microsoft account.
      • Find the Microsoft 365 (or other) subscription that was charged.
      • Change the payment method so PayPal is no longer the primary option, following the steps in How to change your Microsoft subscription payment method and options (referenced in the payment troubleshooting article).
      • If PayPal is no longer wanted on the account at all, remove it from Payment options once there is no past-due balance.
    3. Request a refund for the accidental payment
      • If this was an accidental or unwanted renewal, check if it qualifies for a refund under the Microsoft subscription refund guidance. Use the refund flow for subscriptions and follow the instructions to submit a refund request for that charge.
      • If the charge is considered unauthorized or fraudulent, treat it as an unexpected charge and use the same Manage your payments → Investigate path, then follow the troubleshooter or contact support.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support if self-service doesn’t resolve it
      • If the online refund request or investigation doesn’t resolve the issue, contact Microsoft Support for billing. Use the Get Help / Contact Support flow described in the Q&A references to reach a billing agent, provide the PayPal transaction details, and request that the charge be reversed and PayPal removed as the funding source.
    5. (Optional) Work with PayPal/bank if needed
      • If Microsoft cannot locate or reverse the charge, contact PayPal or the bank behind the PayPal card to dispute the transaction as an accidental or unauthorized charge.

After the refund request is submitted and the payment method updated, verify that future renewals are set to the correct card or that recurring billing is turned off if the subscription is no longer needed.
