Hey there, mithra kannan
I am trying to apply for Azure for Students and the Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors Program, but I am receiving the error: "Unable to confirm your University ID"
When you see the error “Unable to confirm your University ID” while applying for Azure for Students, it usually means one of two things.
It could mean your institution isn't listed in Microsoft's verified academic database. When a school, college, or university applies for Microsoft’s academic programmes, they must verify their organisation as an academic institution. Once verified, Microsoft adds them to the global academic database. This is what Azure checks when you sign up using your educational email address.
Please reach out to your IT team and ask whether your institution has completed Microsoft’s academic verification, and whether other students have successfully signed up for Azure for Students. More details on the verification process can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/commerce/subscriptions/verify-academic-eligibility?view=o365-worldwide
It could mean that your student email uses a different domain or subdomain. Some institutions use a separate domain for student accounts. For example:
- Staff: @university.edu
- Students: @student.university.edu
If the student subdomain hasn’t been added to the institution’s verified domains, Microsoft may not recognise it as part of the same organisation. Your IT team can confirm whether your student email domain is included in their academic verification. If they update the domain, it can take 24–48 hours for the change to propagate before you can try again.
I would also recommend checking the requirements for the Azure Student subscription and make sure you meet these requirements. These requirements can be found here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/education-hub/azure-dev-tools-teaching/program-faq#who-is-eligible-for-azure-for-students-
If you do meet the requirements and are still having trouble, you can try reaching out to Azure support within the portal. If you do not have a subscription, please sign up for an Azure free trial here: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/purchase-options/azure-account
Once you have created an Azure free account, please create a support ticket with through the Azure portal here: https://portal.azure.com/#view/Microsoft_Azure_Support/HelpAndSupportBlade/~/overview
The support team will be able to review your case and go through any available options for you. Please be aware that if the system is unable to verify your university ID, it may mean you can't sign-up for the subscription.
Hope this helps,
Nathan
