I permanently deleted files from my personal OneDrive today by mistake. The files are not in Recycle Bin. Is recovery possible?

I accidentally deleted some important files from my personal OneDrive account today and selected "Delete permanently".

The files are no longer available in the OneDrive Recycle Bin. I also checked my computer's Recycle Bin and the local OneDrive folder, but the files are not there. I tried looking for OneDrive recovery options, but I could not find the "Restore your OneDrive" feature or any second-stage recycle bin.

The deletion happened recently, and I would like to know if there is any way to recover these permanently deleted files from my personal OneDrive account.

Could you please help me recover those of my important files? ASAP?

Is this a personal account or a work/school account?

If it is personal account, unfortunately once deleted from Recycle Bin, it is gone. It works as it is designed to do, the files cannot be recovered.

If this is a work/school account, it might be recoverable, depending on each organization's retention policy. Reach out to your organization's IT support team, they would know what the retention policy is for your organization and can recover for you if it is still within the defined retention period.

Recovery is not possible using native OneDrive features once files have been permanently deleted from the OneDrive Recycle Bin in a personal account.

For personal OneDrive:

• Deleted items go to the OneDrive Recycle Bin and are kept for up to 30 days.
• If items are then permanently deleted from that Recycle Bin (or the bin is emptied), they cannot be recovered by OneDrive or Microsoft support.
• The “Restore your OneDrive” feature is only available to Microsoft 365 subscribers and is used to roll back activity within the last 30 days, but even that cannot recover files that have already been permanently deleted from the Recycle Bin; the documentation explicitly states that once a file is permanently deleted from the OneDrive Recycle Bin, it can never be recovered.

The only remaining possibility would be to try a third-party file recovery tool on any local device where the files might have been stored before sync, but this is outside of OneDrive’s capabilities and is not guaranteed to work.
