Hello, my trial subscription was automatically renewed and charged to my account. I was not aware that the trial would convert into a paid subscription. I would like to cancel the subscription and request a refund of the recent charge. Please advise on the refund process.

    Awaiting your reply urgently.

For an unauthorized Microsoft 365 or other Microsoft charge, the payment must be handled through Microsoft’s billing and refund processes and, if needed, through the bank or card issuer.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Investigate what the charge is for
      • Use Microsoft’s guidance to identify the charge and which account/subscription it belongs to: see How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft (linked from the Q&A answers in the context).
      • This helps confirm whether it is tied to a Microsoft 365 subscription, another Microsoft service, or a different Microsoft Store purchase.
    2. Request a refund for the unauthorized/accidental charge
      • For Microsoft subscriptions (such as Microsoft 365), use the refund process described in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription. You must cancel the subscription first; not all cancellations result in a refund, but this is required to check eligibility.
      • If the charge is for an app, game, or other digital content from Microsoft Store, follow Get a refund for apps and games purchased from Microsoft Store and submit a refund request where eligible.
      • If the charge is an accidental or unauthorized Microsoft Store purchase, use the guidance under Cancel an order or pre-order from Microsoft StoreHow do I cancel an unauthorized or accidental purchase? which directs to the refund process for Microsoft Store items.
    3. Contact Microsoft Support if the self-service steps do not resolve it
      • If the charge cannot be identified or refunded via self-service, contact Microsoft Support for billing help as described in the Q&A guidance (select Microsoft 365/Office, then a billing category, then use chat/phone). Provide date, amount, and last digits of the card so they can locate the transaction.
    4. If the charge is truly unauthorized (possible fraud)
      • If the charge is not linked to any of the user’s Microsoft accounts, or Microsoft cannot locate it, contact the bank or card issuer immediately to:
        • Report the transaction as unauthorized.
        • Request a chargeback or dispute.
        • Block the card and issue a new one to prevent further misuse.
      • Microsoft’s What is a chargeback? article explains that chargebacks are initiated through the financial institution when disputing payments made without consent.

These steps together cover identifying the charge, requesting a refund from Microsoft where possible, and using the bank’s dispute process if it is fraudulent.
