Where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the laptop or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer, and if so, do you have the product key?

Or is your Windows licence based on a previous Windows 7 or 8 licence?

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

To reactivate Windows 10 Pro and get BitLocker working again after a motherboard change, follow these steps.

1. Check Windows activation status

• Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
• If Windows is already activated, no further activation steps are needed.

2. Reactivate Windows 10 Pro after the hardware change

A. If there is a product key

1. On the Activation page, select Change product key.
2. Enter the 25-character Windows 10 Pro product key and follow the prompts.
   • If Windows was preinstalled and the OEM replaced the motherboard, it may reactivate automatically. If not, use the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) key if provided.

B. If there is a digital license linked to a Microsoft account

1. Sign in with an administrator account that is also a Microsoft account (email shown above Administrator in Settings > Accounts > Your info).
2. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
3. If Windows shows as not activated, select Troubleshoot.
4. When the troubleshooter shows Windows can’t be activated on your device, select I changed hardware on this device recently.
5. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was previously linked to the device.
6. From the list of devices, select the checkbox for This is the device I’m using right now, then select Activate.

If the troubleshooter cannot resolve the issue and the device list does not show this PC, or if error codes like 0xC004F211/0xC004F213 appear and no key is found, contact Microsoft customer support to help reactivate the license, especially if it is a retail license.

3. If Windows still cannot be activated

• If Windows came preinstalled and the motherboard was replaced outside the OEM process, a new license may be required.
• To purchase a new license, go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and select Go to Microsoft Store.

4. BitLocker after motherboard change

• BitLocker protection depends on the recovery key and TPM. After a motherboard change, BitLocker may prompt for the recovery key.
• The BitLocker recovery key is typically stored in the Microsoft account used on the device. Retrieve it from the recovery key page referenced in the context, or from other locations described in the BitLocker recovery key article.
• If the recovery key cannot be found, the drive cannot be unlocked and the only option is to format the drive and reinstall Windows. After reinstalling and activating Windows, BitLocker can be turned on again and a new recovery key saved.
