How to recover my Microsoft account that was stolen

My Microsoft account was stolen and the email was changed so I've not been able to recover it. How can I get it back?

I wish I had better news,, when a Microsoft account is hacked, if the hackers change the associated data like the Email, then that account is usually no longer recoverable, this forum is just a user to user account and no-one here has any account access, try using the process they provide on this link to recover a hacked account, if this process is not successful, sadly, that account cannot be recovered.

Account recovery is an automated online process, even if you can contact Microsoft Support, they cannot recover your account, they can only refer you to the account recovery form.

Use the official Microsoft account recovery and hacked-account process. Recovery is fully automated and support cannot manually reset passwords or change account details.

1. Start with the hacked/compromised account troubleshooter
   • Go to the hacked-account guide: How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account.
   • Use the sign-in helper tool linked there. It will ask for your email address or phone number and then either show self-help steps or offer the chance to talk to an agent.
2. If you can still sign in or know the password and have some security info
   • If you still know the password and have access to at least one security method, sign in to the Advanced security options page.
   • Select Add a new way to sign in or verify, set up a new email/phone, verify it, then remove any methods the attacker added.
   • Do not remove all security info at once, or the account may be restricted for 30 days.
3. If the attacker changed all security info and you cannot verify
   • Begin sign-in and at the Verify your identity prompt, choose I don't have any of these (if shown) and follow the instructions to replace security info.
   • When all security info is replaced, there is a mandatory 30‑day wait before full sign-in is allowed. During this period, if old security info becomes available again, it can still be used, but that cancels the update.
4. If you cannot use any verification method and/or do not know the password
   • Use the Microsoft account recovery form as described in Help with the Microsoft account recovery form.
   • Before filling it out:
     • Ensure there is a working email address (different from the stolen account) where Microsoft can contact you.
   • Then open the Account recovery form and fill it out as completely and accurately as possible. Using a device and location previously used with the account improves the chances of success.
   • After submission, Microsoft sends the result to the working email within 24 hours. If verification fails, the form can be retried (up to two times per day).
5. Important limitations
   • If two-step verification was turned on and none of the verification methods are accessible, Microsoft support cannot override this or send password reset links.
   • If the recovery form repeatedly fails and the attacker has fully replaced the security info, there is no other supported method to recover the account.
