I purchased the Microsoft 365 home product, and am hoping to receive a refund as I will not be using the product as much as I thought before purchasing. Can I receive a refund after purchasing?

Was it purchased directly via Microsoft?

If so, if you live in the following countries, you can cancel and get a prorated refund: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/countries-with-prorated-refunds-for-microsoft-subscriptions-38c81df4-10c1-f3eb-8d2f-b04f980c435f

Otherwise, if you signed up within the last 30 days, you might be still qualified for refund, but you need to chat with support:

To get help, open the "Get Help" app on your computer (just search for it in the Start menu). or go to https://support.microsoft.com/contactus, Type "Billing" and press Enter. On the next screen, click "Contact support" at the bottom of the page, then choose "Microsoft 365" > "Manage my subscription". You’ll then see the option to chat with a Microsoft support agent who has access to your account to help review the issue.

If you purchased it from a third-party seller, the refund is entirely subject to that seller’s refund policy.

Yes, a refund may be possible, but it depends on eligibility and how the subscription was purchased.

For a Microsoft 365 Home (now Microsoft 365 Family/Personal/Basic/Premium) subscription bought directly from Microsoft:

    1. First, sign in and cancel the subscription:
      1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account used to buy the subscription.
      2. Find the Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
      3. On the next page, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what is shown), then follow the on‑screen steps.
    2. Refund eligibility:
      • “Not all cancellations will result in a refund.” Refunds depend on timing, offer terms, and local laws.
      • If you are in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, or Turkey, you may be entitled to a prorated refund when you cancel. See the linked article in the context for details on Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions.
      • If you see Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not be charged again; in that case there is nothing more to do for future billing, and there will typically be no refund.
    3. If you bought Microsoft 365 through another store:
      • If the subscription was purchased via Google Play or Apple App Store, cancellation and any refund must be requested from that store’s support:
        • Google Play: see Learn about Google Play refund policies.
        • Apple App Store: request a refund from Apple support.
    4. Checking refund status:
      • If a refund is issued, it will appear in your Microsoft account Order history page, and the money is generally processed back to the original payment method within a few days.

If the subscription was purchased from Microsoft and you cancel within the applicable refund window or in a prorated-refund country, a refund is possible; otherwise, cancelling will usually stop future charges but not generate a refund.
