How to restore 'Full Activation' in Windows 11 Pro for Workstation When Mistakenly in Evaluation Copy

How do I return to Full Windows 11 Pro for Workstation, and not use evaluation copy after mistakenly using a printed Windows 11 Pro for Workstation Product Key twice on different related HP Desktop device?

I want it out of evaluation copy of Windows 11 Pro for Workstation and BACK INTO FULL ACTIVATION of Windows 11 Pro for Workstation. I paid like $49.00 for my Windows 11 Pro for Workstation product key and i want it to work fully on my Lenovo laptop.

so far i have tried reentering my paid product key for Windows 11 Pro for Workstation and the activation troubleshooting without getting the bottom right corner evaluation text to be removed and it to return to a full version of Windows 11 Pro for Workstation.

Thanks!

    Hello Jeffrey Guerra,

Your Lenovo laptop is currently facing an operating system build mismatch combined with a rejected digital license. The evaluation copy text on your desktop indicates the device is running an Insider Preview or a specialized evaluation image, rather than a standard consumer release. You can verify this internally by checking the system registry path located at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion, which stores your specific build laboratory details and identifies the temporary nature of the installation. Because evaluation builds have built-in expiration dates and operate fundamentally differently from stable versions, they cannot be unlocked with a product key. To resolve this watermark, you must back up your files and perform a completely clean installation of Windows 11 using the official Microsoft Media Creation Tool.

The activation failure, usually accompanied by error code 0xC004C008, stems from the strict hardware binding rules of Microsoft digital licenses and the non-compliant nature of your purchased key. A standard product key permanently binds to the motherboard of the first device it activates, meaning the license was entirely consumed when you successfully used it on your HP desktop. Furthermore, legitimate retail licenses for Windows 11 Pro for Workstation cost significantly more than fifty dollars, meaning your key is likely a grey-market volume license that violates Microsoft Software License Terms. Microsoft activation servers routinely block these anomalous keys upon detecting multiple hardware queries across different devices. To secure a permanent, fully activated state, you should complete the clean installation of standard Windows 11 Pro and purchase a legitimate digital license directly through the integrated Microsoft Store.

The evaluation watermark and activation failure are caused by a licensing/activation issue, not by Windows being a different “trial” edition. Windows 11 Pro for Workstations must be activated with a valid license that is not already in use beyond what the Microsoft Software License Terms allow.

Based on the provided information, the following actions are supported:

    1. Check the activation error code
      1. Select Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      2. Note the exact error code shown (for example, 0xC004C008, 0xC004F211, 0x803F7001, etc.).
    2. If the key was used on another device (e.g., 0xC004C008 / 0xC004C770 / 0x803FA071) These errors indicate the product key has already been used on another device or is being used on more devices than allowed. To restore full activation on the Lenovo laptop:
      1. On the Lenovo laptop, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      2. If there is a Change product key option and a valid, unused product key is available, select Change product key and enter that key.
      3. If there is no additional valid key and the existing key is already in use on another device, purchase a new license for this laptop:
        • In Activation, select Go to Microsoft Store and follow the instructions to buy a Windows license for this device.
    3. If Windows reports hardware or missing key (0xC004F211 / 0xC004F213) These errors indicate Windows cannot find a matching license on the current hardware, often after hardware changes. To fix this:
      1. If a product key was previously used on this same device, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation and select Change product key, then enter that key again.
      2. If the license was a digital license linked to a Microsoft account:
        • Ensure the Lenovo laptop is signed in with the same Microsoft account that holds the digital license.
        • In Activation, select Troubleshoot.
        • When prompted, select I changed hardware on this device recently, sign in with the linked Microsoft account, select the current device from the list, check This is the device I’m using right now, and then select Activate.
      3. If Windows originally came preinstalled on another device and the motherboard or device has changed, a new license may be required. In that case, in Activation select Go to Microsoft Store and purchase a new license for the Lenovo laptop.
    4. If the edition or key does not match (0xC004F212 / 0xC004F00F)
      • If the error indicates the key is not compatible with the installed edition, ensure that the installed edition is exactly Windows 11 Pro for Workstations and that the product key is for that same edition.
      • If the wrong edition was installed or selected during setup, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation and select Troubleshoot. If a valid digital license for a different edition is found, follow the instructions to install the correct edition.
    5. Use the Activation troubleshooter when available If Windows is not activated and the Troubleshoot option is shown:
      1. Sign in with an administrator account.
      2. Select Start > Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot.
      3. Follow the on-screen guidance. If the troubleshooter detects a license mismatch or a hardware change, it will offer the appropriate reactivation or edition correction path.

If none of the above paths succeed and the key has already been used on another device beyond the allowed terms, the only supported way to restore full activation on the Lenovo laptop is to use a different valid key or purchase a new Windows license for that device via the Microsoft Store from the Activation page.
