Cancel and refund annual subscription

I purchased an annual subscription to Microsoft Office for work, not realizing I already had access to it through work. Can I cancel my annual subscription and receive a refund for at least 11 months' worth?

Hi Britney, yes, you can cancel the annual subscription, but the refund amount depends on Microsoft’s refund policy for your country/region and whether the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft. Community support cannot process billing refunds directly.

From your screenshot, please choose “Cancel subscription” rather than only “Turn off recurring billing”. You can sign in here with the account that purchased it: https://account.microsoft.com/services, open the Microsoft 365 subscription, select Manage, then Cancel subscription. During the cancellation process, Microsoft will show a refund option if the subscription is eligible.

Turning off recurring billing only stops the next renewal; it does not request a refund for the current annual subscription.

To see whether a prorated refund is possible and to stop future charges:

1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page for the Microsoft account that purchased the subscription: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
2. Find the Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
3. Select Cancel subscription (or Upgrade or Cancel, depending on what is shown) and follow the prompts to complete cancellation.
4. During cancellation, any available refund option is shown based on the account’s country and subscription type.

Key points from the refund policy:

• For consumer subscriptions purchased directly from Microsoft, a refund is only available when the subscription is canceled and the account is eligible under the regional rules.
• Some countries (for example, Canada, Israel, Korea, Turkey, and certain renewed annual subscriptions in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, and Portugal) allow prorated refunds for remaining time after cancellation.
• For countries not listed in the prorated-refund policy, canceling typically stops future renewals but may not provide a refund for the remaining term.
