Windows update (Jun 24, 2026) done now scanner on printer doesn't work

Since yesterday when my computer did an update (running Windows 11 Pro) my brother printer (MFC-L6700DW) will not scan to my computer. I can print from my computer. I can use the app on my phone (iPhone 16 pro max) and scan to my phone.

I did everything I could find to do to fix it! Unplug printer wait 30 seconds. Uninstalled the program and reinstall (for printer). Restarted my computer. I do have a warning about a certificate that expired yesterday (Jun 24, 2026). It looks like the new certificate is installed to the best of my knowledge yet the error says there is still an error. Other wise my computer seems to say that everything is fine. When I try to scan my printer does show up as the computer the scan will go to, but nothing happens. I checked my firewall. I have removed and re added the printer. I tried the Windows Image Acquisition thing every thing seems to be the way its suppose to be, but I still can't scan.

Hi,

Is the printer connected via the network or shared?

Also, are you trying to scan using the Brother software or Windows Scan?

I think shared?!? Only my computer uses the printer. Connected by Wi-Fi. I put paper in the printer and push the screen to have it scan. I would guess that means Brother software. Sorry! I know enough about computer / printers to get me by. I also know for the most part not to start pushing things as it can cause more issues than fixing them.

Do this: go to the Start menu > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Click on Brother > MFC-L6700DW, take a screenshot, and post it here.

Hi,

Do the following: click on the "Scan Settings" tab > "More Scan and Printer Settings" > select the Brother printer > right-click and select "Start Scan."

Try scanning and see if it works using the top feeder.

Let me know if it worked or not.

Hey Sharon!

Ugh, I know how frustrating this is — especially when printing works fine but scanning just refuses to cooperate after an update. That certificate warning you mentioned is almost definitely the culprit here.

Here's what I'd try:

First, go to Services (just search it in the Start menu), find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), and restart it. Also restart Shell Hardware Detection while you're there. Sometimes the update just kicks these services out of whack.

If that doesn't work, I'd honestly just uninstall that June 24 update temporarily. Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update History → Uninstall Updates. This alone fixes it for a lot of people while they wait for Brother to push a patched driver.

Also, head over to brother.com and grab a fresh download of their full driver package — not the one you already had, a brand new download. Brother usually patches their drivers pretty quickly after Windows updates break things.

The good news is your hardware is clearly fine since your phone can scan no problem. This is 100% a software/certificate conflict from that update, so it IS fixable — just takes a little annoying trial and error.

I did the restart of WIA and the Shell Hardware Detection. No changes.

When I uninstalled the driver and reinstalled they did come from the Brother website so I think they are as fresh as they get. The full driver package! No changes still. I started to look into uninstalling the last windows update, and I am not confident enough in my ability or knowledge to try that option as it seems a little complicated rather than a simple "Uninstall" button. I do have the workaround to scan on my phone and than email to myself. I hope this is fixed sooner than later. Thank you for your ideas. I was even excited as I seen two optional downloads one from Brother and the other from Acer. Sadly no changes. I still can't scan!
