How and where do i start when wanting to pilot and use Power BI as part of my copilot agent to develop and create visuals based on data gathered from my work space?

If you’re looking to pilot Power BI as part of a Copilot agent to generate visuals from your workspace data, the best approach is to start simple and then gradually extend into a more advanced architecture.

To get started, I recommend keeping your pilot simple first. Begin by creating or using an existing Power BI dataset (semantic model) and publish it to a workspace that has Premium or Fabric capacity, since this is required for Copilot features. Once Copilot is enabled in your environment, you can use the Copilot pane in Power BI to generate visuals, reports, and insights directly from your data using natural language. After you’re comfortable with that, you can extend into a Copilot agent scenario where Power BI acts as the data layer and the agent queries your datasets to return insights and visuals. For more advanced implementations, options like Power BI MCP or Fabric Data Agents can be explored, but starting inside Power BI is the best way to pilot and validate your data first.
