Changing between multiple Microsoft Teams accounts within the app or browser
Hi @Michael Schmidt,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I understand that you would like Microsoft Teams to start with your preferred (business) account instead of automatically signing in with another account.
At the moment, Microsoft Teams does not provide a built-in setting to define a specific “default startup account.” This behavior can be inconvenient, especially when you are using multiple accounts (personal, business, or self-employed).
In the meantime, you can consider the following best practices:
- Use the Teams desktop application for your primary (business) account
- Use a separate browser profile (Edge or Chrome) for your personal or secondary accounts
Additionally, there is a workaround you may try:
- Open Teams
- Switch to the account you want
- Close Teams (do NOT sign out, just quit the app)
- Reopen Teams
This approach may help Teams remember and open with your preferred account the next time. If you need to switch accounts again in the future, simply repeat the steps above.
If managing multiple accounts is a frequent requirement for you, this is a valid scenario that could benefit from product improvement. The best way to ensure the Teams product team is aware of this need is to submit feedback through the official Microsoft Feedback Portal. This is where the engineering team actively reviews customer suggestions, and many improvements have been implemented based on user feedback.
How to submit your suggestion:
- Visit the Microsoft Feedback Portal
- Select Send feedback
- Provide a clear description, for example: “Allow Microsoft Teams to select a default startup account when multiple accounts are signed in.”
If you post your idea, feel free to share the link here. I would be happy to support it with an upvote, and other users with similar requirements may also benefit from its visibility.
As forum moderators, we don’t have the ability to change product behavior, but we’re happy to help clarify available options and share helpful workarounds.
Thank you again for raising this. I understand this may not be the experience you expected, and I truly appreciate your feedback.
