If Word stops responding, you can always close it using the Task Manager. Right-click the Windows taskbar and choose Task Manager. Locate the Word process and end it.

Restart your PC. If the problem remains, try an Office repair; see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/repair-an-office-application .

    Hi, good day!

To help narrow down the cause, could you let me know a few details?

Are you using Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Are you using Microsoft 365 or a standalone version of Office (such as Office 2021)?

Does Word display an error message, or does it simply stay on the splash screen until it times out?

Are other Office apps, such as Excel or PowerPoint, opening normally?

In the meantime, please try opening Word in Safe Mode

Press Windows + R to open Run

    Please type

    winword /safe

    and press Enter.

Let me know if it opens successfully

I look forward to receiving your update and I'm willing to collaborate with you till we resolve the issue. Do keep me informed by clicking "Add comment" below.
