Multiple Lines of text column showing a lot of HTML Tags after switching from Enhanced rich text to plain

We're using SharePoint 2010 in our company .

Recently, one of the users reported an issue where multiple lines of text was used with Enhanced rich text. Issue occurred when one of the list owners went to the column settings and changed the text type to Plain. As soon as this was done, all the appended text which was entered previously started appearing with a lot of HTML tags, mainly DIV. We tried switching back to Enhanced but it didn't work and now the entire info on the affected multi line column looks like a lot of HTML tags with 2-3 lines of same thing and then the text entered by the user. Any ideas on this?

The text now looks something like this:

<div><div><amp;amp;amp;amp;gt;(2-3 lines of this same HTML code)THE REAL TEXT ENTERED by the user

This trend is repeated in every multi line entry now which was done before the change took place.

This is not a custom list. It's a vanilla list created from Site Contents menu.

    Hello @Prabhat Singh ,

In my test, I cannot reproduce your problem.

    For example:

1.Create a multi-line text column with “Enhanced rich text

    141561-2.png

2.Switching from "Enhanced rich text" to "Plain"

    141460-3.png

    141562-4.png

    Please confirm the following points:

1.Does the text entered by the user have style requirements? Can you provide your test text information?

2.Clear the browser cache for testing

3.Switch browsers for testing, such as IE, Edge, Chrome

    4.Test on other lists

    Thanks,
    Echo Du
