I am looking for a OneDrive, SharePoint moved to a different location original purchase is in Indonesia and need to move to Hong Kong. and I have purchased 5 license for ADR. but my questions are as

  1. on the page I dont see the required location mentioned as Hong kong only the current data location as Indonesia
  2. Purchase of ADR license will only place the data at Indonesia only, correct? It will not migrate it? or can we use it migrate to other location?
  3. If I dont see the required location I can't migrate the data to that?
  4. What is missing link here?
  5. How to move the data to different data location? need steps

    Hi RaGau

According to my research based on your description:

    • If the tenant's Current Data Location shows Indonesia and you do not see Hong Kong listed as the Committed/Required Data Location, purchasing Advanced Data Residency (ADR) alone does not automatically migrate your existing SharePoint and OneDrive data to Hong Kong. ADR provides data residency commitments and access to migration services for eligible geographies, but the data movement itself is a separate process.
    • If ADR was recently purchased, it is worth checking whether Hong Kong appears as the committed geography in Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Settings > Org settings > Organization profile > Data location. A difference between Current Geography and Committed Geography can indicate that migration has not yet been initiated or completed.

    • If Hong Kong does not appear as an available target geography, the tenant may not be eligible for migration to that location. Data residency and migration eligibility are generally tied to factors such as the tenant's sign-up country/default geography and Microsoft's supported ADR geographies.

To better understand your situation, could you please share some information:

    • What is the tenant's sign-up country/region?
    • Does Data Location show only Current Geography = Indonesia, or does it also display a Committed Geography? (screenshot of the Data Location page with any sensitive information removed if possible)
    • Have ADR licenses been assigned to 100% of eligible users in the tenant? ADR requires full tenant coverage for its commitments to apply.

For the migration process itself, Microsoft documents that SharePoint and OneDrive data moves are performed through Microsoft's data residency migration program when the tenant is eligible and the appropriate commitments are in place.

I hope this information helps and look forward to your response!
