Excel for MAC 16.110.3 - Stock Data Type field references fail (=A1.Price invalid)

Question

Product: Microsoft for MAC (Microsoft 365)

Version: 16.110.3

Hardware: Apple Silicon M4 MAC

Mac OS: Tahoe 26.5.2

Problem: I am unable to retrieve fields from Linked Data Types (Stocks & Currencies) in Excel for Mac.

For Example:

1. Enter ADBE in cell A!
2. Convert A1 to Stocks type Data
3. in B1 type =A1
4. Excel displays the correct autocomplete list of fields (Price, Currency, Ticker etc)
5. Select Price and press return

Expected Result:

The formula should become =A1.Price and return the current share price.

Actual result:

Excel displays:

"There's a problem with this formula"

The same occurs for every available field (Price, Currency, Exchange, Ticker Symbol etc)

The Insert Data button also displays the available fields, but selecting one either does nothing or produces the same formula error.

Additional Findings:

• =FIELDVALUE(a1,"Price") returns #NAME?
• FIELDVALUE does not appear in Insert Function
• ISOMITTED(1) also returns #NAME?

This suggests the modern library is not available even though Excel reports the latest version.

Troubleshooting already completed

• Created brand new workbook
• Tested with both Stocks and Currency data types.
• Created new macOS user account and tested there.
• Completely uninstalled Microsoft Office.
• Reinstalled Microsoft 365 directly from office.com (not App Store)
• Installed all available updates.
• Verified Calculation is set to Automatic
• Reset Excel Preferences
• Verified the Microsoft 365 Subscription is active.
• Confirmed the exact same Microsoft account and workbook work correctly in Excel for the web where +A1.Price functions normally

Request:

Could you please investigate whether this is a known issue or regression in Excel for Mac 16.110.3?

Based on extensive testing, the issue appears to be specific to the Mac desktop application rather than the workbook, Microsoft account or Linked Data Types Service.

Thank you for the detailed testing and screenshot.

Since the same workbook and Microsoft account work correctly in Excel for the web, this does not appear to be an account, workbook, or Stock Data Type service issue. The fact that =FIELDVALUE(A1,"Price") returns #NAME? and some modern functions are not recognized suggests that Excel for Mac may not be loading the modern Microsoft 365 formula library correctly.

As you have already tried reinstalling Office, testing a new macOS user profile, resetting preferences, checking updates, and testing older versions, there may not be much more that can be done from the community forum side.

Please submit this through Excel for Mac > Help > Feedback > I don’t like something, and include the screenshot, Excel version, macOS version, Apple Silicon model, and examples such as =A1.Price and =FIELDVALUE(A1,"Price"). If this is a business Microsoft 365 subscription, your admin can also open a support request from the Microsoft 365 admin center so support can collect logs.

For now, Excel for the web may be the best workaround until Microsoft can investigate the Mac desktop issue further.

I tested on the same Excel version (16.110.3) and macOS 26, and I did not see the behavior you are describing. Everything is working normally on my side.

In my screenshot:

C1=A1.Price

D1=FIELDVALUE(A1,"Price")

E1=A1.[TicketSymbol]

G1=A1.Currency

May I ask did you just meet this issue recently? Specifically, after updating to version 110.3?

Does the issue persist when you use another stock data? Try MSFT and see if the issue persists.

You can try to reinstall previous version of Excel where you do not meet this issue via Update history for Office for Mac - Office release notes | Microsoft Learn
