Locked out after subscription cancellation due to failed payment – no way to open a support ticket

I received a notification that an invoice could not be paid due to an outdated credit card on file. I would like to update the payment method and settle the invoice, but by the time I tried to act, the subscription had already been deleted — and the billing profile along with it.

As a result, I'm stuck in a deadlock:

  • I can't create a support ticket, because that requires an active subscription.
  • I can't update the payment method or pay the outstanding invoice, because the billing profile no longer exists.
  • I have no way to reach Microsoft support directly, since a valid subscription is required to open a case.

Has anyone run into this before, or knows a workaround to get in touch with Microsoft support without an active subscription? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, this is a billing-account recovery issue and does not require buying another support plan. Sign in with the original billing-account owner and use the Azure Billing support/contact route, selecting payment method or disabled/canceled subscription; billing requests are free. Include the invoice number, billing-account/profile ID if visible, cancellation date, and the exact portal error privately. Ask Billing to restore access to the billing profile or provide a supported way to settle the outstanding invoice. Do not create a second tenant/subscription to pay the old balance, and never send card details in Q&A or email—enter them only in Microsoft's secure payment experience after the account is repaired.

    1. Use the Microsoft 365 / Azure Billing Support Form (No Subscription Required)

Microsoft has a separate support channel specifically for billing issues that does not require an active subscription.

You can open a billing ticket here:

Microsoft 365 / Azure Billing Support (no login restrictions) https://support.microsoft.com/supportforbusiness/productselection

    Choose:

    Billing

    Azure or Microsoft 365

    Then select Contact Support

    1. Contact Azure Billing Support via the Public Form

Azure billing support is free and available even without a subscription:

    Azure Billing Support Request
