A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data
Hi Angela
Thank you for reaching out regarding the missing Automate/Automate Work option in Excel for the web.
If the Automate or Automate Work option is not visible in Excel for the web, it is typically related to Office Scripts availability, licensing, administrative settings, or the workbook location.
Please try the following:
1/ Confirm that your Microsoft 365 license supports Office Scripts
Office Scripts requires a supported Microsoft 365 business or education license, such as Microsoft 365/Office 365 Business, Business Premium, Apps for Enterprise (ProPlus), A3/A5, E1/E3/E5, or F3, along with Excel for the web and OneDrive for Business.
For more information, please refer to: Platform limits, requirements, and error messages for Office Scripts - Office Scripts | Microsoft L…
To check your license, sign in to the My account page using your Microsoft 365 work or school account.
Once signed in, you should see your Microsoft 365 subscription details similar to the example below:
2/ Make sure the workbook is stored in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint
Office Scripts in Excel for the web requires the workbook to be stored in OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Online. Please open the workbook directly from one of these locations rather than from a locally uploaded or temporary session copy.
3/ Ask your IT administrator to verify Office Scripts settings
Your IT administrator can check whether Office Scripts is enabled by navigating to:
Microsoft 365 admin center > Settings > Org settings > Services > Office Scripts
They should confirm that "Let users automate their tasks in Excel" is enabled either for all users or for the group that includes your account
For reference: Manage Office Scripts settings - Microsoft 365 admin | Microsoft Learn
Additionally, even when Office Scripts is enabled, access may be restricted to specific Microsoft 365 groups, security groups, distribution groups, or mail-enabled security groups. Your administrator can verify whether your account has been granted access.
In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support
I hope this information helps. If you have any questions or need further clarification on any of the steps above, please let me know. I will be happy to assist you further.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
