Office 365 Mac v16 2023 has deactivated

All my office apps have suddenly deactivated and when I try and reactivate, it says it's activating, but then I get 'error 0x0' every time. I've tried the 'remove office licence files' app from the MS site as suggested, but that doesn't work.

The same apps on my iPhone are activated and working.

I don't want to remove the Office Apps as I know I'll be told I need to upgrade my OS, which completely unnecessary and will cause a lot more problems with other software.

Anyone found a solution as from my internet search it seems a requiring problem.

Kind regards

Mike

Hey Mike, what's your MacOS version? You said v16, but I think that refered to the Office version.

    Hello @M J Bird

I understand your Office 365 for Mac (Version 16.x, originally installed in 2023) has suddenly become deactivated, and every attempt to reactivate shows that activation is in progress before ending with error 0x0. I can also see that you've already tried Microsoft's license removal tool without success, and since the same Microsoft 365 subscription is working correctly on your iPhone, it suggests the subscription itself is still active.

This type of behavior can sometimes occur when Office is holding older activation data, cached credentials, or account information that did not refresh correctly. Since your subscription is recognized on another device, the focus should be on the local activation process rather than the Microsoft 365 subscription itself.

To confirm the situation and suggest the troubleshooting steps in the right direction, may I confirm a few points:

    • Which macOS version are you currently running?
    • Is this a Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Business subscription?
    • When you sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/services, does the subscription show as active?
    • Do Word, Excel, and Outlook all show the same error 0x0?
    • Have there been any recent macOS updates, Office updates, or account password changes?
