Which Microsoft Office product do you have? A subscription such as Microsoft 365 Personal? Or a perpetual license such as Office 2024? Which version is indicated if you start Word and click Word > About Microsoft Word?

    Hello Daphne,

Let me work with you to solve this problem.

I'm going to run through a few steps with you. Some of these are diagnostic — they help me narrow down what's wrong, not fix it outright. So if nothing changes after a step, that's normal and expected, not a dead end. I'll keep going until we've got this resolved.

    1. Do you mean that it opens but you cannot type?
    2. Are you able to check activation status of Word and confirm me if it is activated?

I look forward to hearing from you to get the results of the troubleshooting.

    @Daphne Beal

Do you still need assistance with this?

Some new information has become known over the past weeks. Microsoft Office will only run on your Mac if macOS can be upgraded to Monterey or later. You also need an Office license which is able to run release 16.83 or later (this excludes Office 2019, at least, which can't be used to license an Office install on a Mac).

    See https://www.brandwares.com/bestpractices/2023/03/most-recent-office-you-can-run-best-practices/ .

For Microsoft documentation, have a look at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/lifecycle/officeinstall/update-m365-office-macos-ios and https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365-apps/mac/certificate-update-mac-ios .

    Hello,

First, see if you can update your Office apps. Open Word for example, click on the 'Help' tab >Check for Updates. Make sure you choose Update All when prompted. Let the process run through, can take a bit time. See if that works.

If not, please uninstall the apps. Follow the instructions here for complete uninstall.

    https://support.microsoft.com/office/office-for-mac/troubleshoot-office-for-mac-issues-by-completely-uninstalling-before-you-reinstall

    Then reinstall this way:

If you signed up via Apple App Store, then download and install from the App Store.

If you signed up via Microsoft directly,

    Please go to https://www.office.com

Sign into the Microsoft account you used for the subscription. Click on the 9-dot icon on the upper left > More apps.

Then on the upper right, click on "Install apps". This will now download the installer file. Once downloaded, click on the file to install. It will install the Desktop version of the apps for you then.
