Hardware Change and Error In Reactivating Windows 11

Hi. I have recently reinstalled Windows 11 64-bit after changing the motherboard.
However, I did not bind my Windows 11 license key to my Microsoft account.

Now, I am locked out of activation. Whatever troubleshoot I tried failed. I can't even get passed the Activation by Phone.

It was a genuine Microsoft Windows 11 Professional license I bought a couple of years ago.

PLEASE HELP!

If you bought a physical licence with a product key you need the original product key. Enter that product key in Settings under Change product key.

Are you sure you have Pro edition installed currently.

@Chin Yun Lau You said in a previous response you have a 25 character product key.

Get ShowKeyPlus from the windows Store and enter your key (from the USB package) at Check edition in the app. Does it confirm a Windows 10/11 Pro Retail licence or something else?

Hi,

Did you purchase the key digitally, or did you buy a physical 25-digit key?

Just to help clarify: did you attempt activation after a hardware change?

Hi. Thanks for the response.
I bought the physical license. It has a USB thumb drive, and the 25-digit key printed on a card.

Yes. Recently, my PC crashed due to Motherboard damage. I had to purchase a replacement board. And after that, I reinstalled Windows and that's when I found that I can't re-use the physical license. Phone activation always end up error.

This is so frustrating. I have the 25-digit key but yet I can't activate the license.

Hi,

If you have the 25-digit product key and the reactivation method via hardware change, you can try offline activation.

To do this, open the command prompt (adm) and run the command: slmgr /upk. Wait for the uninstalled key window to appear.

Restart your PC.

Open the command prompt (adm) and run the commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Wait for the process to finish and restart the computer.

Disconnect from the internet, then access the Start menu > Settings > System > Activation > Change product key and enter the 25-digit key. See if it activates.

If it does, restart your PC again. If it remains activated, you will be able to connect to the internet.

If it doesn't work, you will have to contact Microsoft support.
