An application or feature powered by Windows Copilot to assist users with tasks and productivity
Hi JTG Galea,
I understand how confusing this can be when Copilot keeps defaulting to your personal account instead of recognizing your work account.
Your personal Microsoft account and your work account are separate accounts, even if they use the same phone number. Deleting the personal account may not resolve this issue, especially if the work email address itself is not being recognized.
Before closing the personal account, please try the following:
- Sign out of Copilot and any other Microsoft apps where the personal account is currently signed in.
- Open a private or InPrivate browser window and try signing in to Microsoft 365 with your work email address.
- If the work account works there, return to Copilot and choose Use another account, then enter the work email address manually.
- If the work email is still shown as unrecognized, please contact your organization’s IT or Microsoft 365 administrator. They can confirm the correct sign-in address, verify that the work account is active and check whether it has access to Copilot.
You may also let me know whether the work account can sign in successfully to other services such as Outlook, Teams or Microsoft 365 and whether you are using the Copilot website, the Microsoft Copilot app or the Microsoft 365 Copilot app.
Please avoid deleting the personal account until the work account is confirmed to be working. Closing the personal account may affect any subscriptions, files, purchases, emails or other services associated with it. Thank you so much for your understanding.
