Unable to receive any emails on outlook web

I just created a new email account ending with hotmail.com

I cannot receive any emails at all (using the web browser; I do not have an outlook desktop app), but sending emails is fine.

There is no forwarding etc set up because this email account is completely new.

How do I troubleshoot this?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

Visit your Microsoft account: https://account.microsoft.com and look for any of these:

    • Verify your identity
    • Unusual activity detected
    • Action required
    • Account temporarily limited

Sometimes new accounts require an additional verification before they're fully functional.

If above check will still fail and considering the account is only about 20 hours old, I'd suggest to wait until the account has been active for 24–48 hours, as mailbox provisioning can occasionally take longer than expected.

I have additional questions to ask so I can narrow down the issue further.

    1. How old is the Hotmail account? (minutes, hours, days, weeks?)
    2. When you send from the Hotmail account to itself, does that message appear?
    3. In Outlook web, do you see the folders Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk, Deleted Items normally and have you checked them if the sent messages are there in any of the folders?
    4. Did you create the account directly at outlook.com, or was it created while signing up for another Microsoft service (Windows, Xbox, Office, etc.)?

    Hi!

Welcome to the Microsoft Q&A forum.

You need to do a quick test and send an email from a different email provider. You can send a message to your new Hotmail address from a completely different account, such as Gmail, Yahoo, or another Outlook account.

From this test you can determine if the sender (which is you using different provider) will receive a bounce-back (non-delivery report) and from here I can trace what is happening based on the error that will show.
