Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support.
I have a Asus FX706HC laptop that is about 4 years old. I am all of a sudden getting these errors Stop Code Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area (0x50) and IRQL not less or equal. The computer reboots and comes back up into Windows normally. I also cannot update Windows through updater. The latest July security patch will not install and gives error code 0x80240035. I have run memtest86 and have no issues with the RAM. I have also completed wiped the computer and reinstalled from a Microsoft image via USB.
I have Windows 11 Home 25H2.
When I run DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth I get error code 87 or error code 2. Depending on whether I point to a mounted image file.
Any ideas to try?

Hi ,
Search for msinfo32.exe in the search bar, take a screenshot, and post it here so we can see the correct laptop model or desktop configuration.
Access the c:\windows\minidump folder, copy the files to your desktop, then upload them to OneDrive or Google Drive and post the link here for analysis.
Thanks

Hi,
The Google Drive link is requesting access. If possible, please fix it and let me know here.
Thanks.
I made the Google Drive link unrestricted. Try it now. Thanks.
Hi,
Do you have Bitdefender antivirus installed?
Thanks.
Yes I installed Bitdefender but it was crashing before I installed it.
Hi,
The minidump indicates that the BSOD failure is caused by Bitdefender; issues with the Bitdefender system likely occur during the process.
Thanks.
I will uninstall Bitdefender and report back if the crashes continue.
Hi,
I understand. After uninstalling Bitdefender, I also recommend performing this process: open the Command Prompt (as adm) and run the commands sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, wait for the process to finish, and restart the computer.
Please keep me updated on whether this improves the situation or resolves the problem.
Thanks.
I uninstalled Bitdefender and all its components and rebooted.
I ran sfc /scannow and it completed and displayed that windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations.
I ran dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth and it completed at 100%. It displayed "The operation completed successfully". It took about 25 minutes to complete and moved very slowly between 60% and 72%.
I got two new crashes after the above were completed.

Hi,
The minidump files show various errors related to services. Does this BSOD issue occur only with Windows updates?
Thanks.
The crashes have occurred when performing windows update and when using Microsoft Edge browser.
Hi,
The issue involves kernel errors and Windows VSS service errors.
I recommend updating the BIOS and the drivers for the iGPU and dGPU, as well as the chipset.
Keep in mind that while a BIOS update is recommended, it does carry risks. If the process is interrupted, your laptop might fail to boot. Therefore, if you lack experience with hardware and software, I suggest skipping this step—even though it is highly recommended.
To update the BIOS, you must first disable BitLocker. To do this, open the Command Prompt (as administrator), run the command manage-bde -off C:, wait for the decryption process to finish, and restart your computer.
After that, you can download the BIOS from the link below:
https://www.asus.com/supportonly/fx706hc/helpdesk_bios/
How to perform the BIOS update procedure: https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1008276/
After updating the BIOS, I recommend using DDU.

Note: DDU is a third-party application used to completely uninstall and reinstall GPU drivers.

Open the Command Prompt (adm) and run the following commands: sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Wait for the process to complete and restart your computer.
Next, perform a clean boot, and I recommend uninstalling any applications you do not use.
Run a 24-hour test to verify that everything is working correctly.

Is it best to run the graphics driver uninstalled and new driver in safe mode? I am worried about a crash during removal or installation. I have never had a crash in safe mode or while running memtest86.
Hi,
Running it in Safe Mode is recommended to ensure it doesn't freeze during the process.
Thanks.
My bios was already upgraded to version 316.
I uninstalled all GPU drivers using the DDU tool.
I installed all drivers as instructed.
I ran the sfc and dism commands and they both completed without issue.
I received a crash though after just pulling up Edge and another in Chrome. The Chrome crash didn't make it to 100% so the dump file was not created.

Hi,
A ReadyBoost failure occurred; it is possible that your SSD or RAM modules are experiencing issues. If possible, please run a memory diagnostic.
Press Windows + R, type mdsched.exe, and press Enter. Choose the option "Restart now and check for problems."
If no memory issues are found, open the Command Prompt (as adm) and run the command: chkdsk C: /f /r . Then, restart your PC to check for issues with the C: drive.
Let me know the results.
Thanks.
Does the chkdsk C: /f /r scan the SSD? I had suspected the SSD originally. CrystalDiskInfo reports no issues with the SSD and is at 96% health.
Hi,
In this case, chkdsk checks the C: drive partition for errors. You could run the command; it is possible the SSD is failing. Do you have only one SSD drive?
Thanks.
I have the original Intel NVME it came with and a Micron 2300 in it right now. Crashes were happening with both NVMe’s.
The memory test passed.
choral was run but it is still crashing. I couldn’t get a log file since the black crash screen never got to 100% both times it did it. Any more ideas to try?
Just a note. I have two sticks of 32GB of Crucial memory in the laptop.
Hi,
Just to be sure: did you perform a clean reinstallation of Windows and test to see if the problem persists? I ask because you mentioned testing with another NVMe drive and the issue still occurred.
Did you clone the Windows installation, or did you perform a clean install on two different SSDs and the problems persisted?
I'm trying to troubleshoot the issue.
Thanks.
Hi,
If possible, test the RAM modules one stick at a time. Remove one module and test using only the other to see if the problem persists. If the issue remains, test the other module; by swapping the sticks, you can determine whether the problem lies with the memory modules themselves or with the motherboard's memory slots.
Thanks.
I put both memory modules into DIMM0 memory slot. Memory module A caused 2 crashes. Memory module A was originally in DIMM1 memory slot. Memory module B has not crashed for 5 hours straight so I think that may be it.
I noticed the CPU temperature is getting up to 95 C during stress testing. The fans were blown out and are operating. Should I re-heat past the CPU/GPU?
Hi,
Yes, that is possible; that is why I suggested testing the modules one stick at a time. It is possible that DIMM 0 is faulty, but try swapping the memory sticks into DIMM 1 to confirm whether the issue lies with the memory modules themselves or with the DIMM 0 and DIMM 1 slots.
Regarding the heat, laptops do tend to get hot, especially during heavy use. However, since it is a laptop, the thermal paste might be worn out; if you have experience, replacing the thermal paste would be a good idea. Also, check to ensure the laptop's air vents aren't obstructed. If you don't have experience with this, do not attempt the procedure yourself—consult an authorized service center instead.
Thanks.
